    Greetings, DL Braintrust;

    Last week, I took and passed the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) v.3 foundations certification. Not bragging or wanting congratulations, bit wanting feedback and opinions about the certification itself. The test itself seemed difficult enough, but not on the level of something like the PMP exam or CISSP.

    For those unfamiliar, the intent of the cert is to address competency in planning for and operating/administering IT services (data center, hosting, help desk, etc). My company offered the training and one paid opportunity to test for the certification (something like $165.00 US through Prometric), so I took the opportunity. Any other experiences or thoughts on this?

    I have noticed that more ads for service positions (Helpdesk / Desktop / Management / etc.) are mentioning it though overall the percentage is still relatively low. I've been looking around for free study materials for the foundations exam and so far have come up empty. Besides 2 courses I'm going to try to complete the CCNA by the end of the year, and if I can locate relevant study materials for that exam it may be next.

    I'm seeing an increasing number of upper-level positions, even in surprising places like networking, expecting an ITIL background. It's not a bad certification to have.

    If you're going for the CCNA, I'd suggest going on ebay to pick up some cheap cisco routers / racks for a network setup..while the BOSON sims are pretty good, nothing beats the real thing :)
