Today just for fun I took an online practice exam for the CompTIA A+ certification and nearly passed without any prestudy. So I figure with some online prep work I'd be able to pass the real test.

However I've read that CompTIA A+ 2009 will launch soon ...

So should I wait and take the new 2009 tests? Does it matter which one I take (it says they'll continue to offer the current 2006 tests until 2010)? I'm new to the world of certifications :)

I would take it before the test changes. You will find better study info for the old version. I used Exam Cram / Exam Prep books and they were great. I took it in 2000 and it never expires unlike Microsoft.

I would agree with Dr. Randell. The CompTIA's certifications have no expiration date likes CISCO Certs. Therefore, you once you pass...then it is for good unless you're not in the field for several years. Most of the employers don't ask for A+ nor Network+ anymore. They only ask for MCSE (MCIT), CCNA, CCNP, or Security+. Check for PM
