Hopefully, I will get excepted to Capitol College next May, when I finish up my bachelors degree. I only heard great things about this college and haven't seen a bad posting anywhere.

I have - MSIA/MSNS - do you have any specific questions about the school or method of education?

Personally, I enjoy their programs and think they are a true value. I even drove out to Laurel to attend graduation.

I know they have an online, live open house (I believe quarterly), which might be worthwhile.

The classes are great; I learned a lot. In fact, I've recommended Capitol to several current students.

You do have to write papers. The requirements vary by class and professor - I think one of my final projects was around 40 pages.

There's always a bit of theory in everything; however, one if the reasons why I went with Capitol was the hands-on / tactical nature of the program. I also have an appreciation for their online, live class delivery.

I am hopeful to take part in their PhD program which should start in 6 - 12 months.

I have heard lot of people have great experience with Capitol College. Especially I have not found any negative opinion about this institution. However, the school is not really popular in the region (Washington D.C); I believe the reason for that because most of major institutions over come Capitol College. These institutions include Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, American University, University of Maryland - College Parks, Catholic University of America, and etc.

I think they should offer Doctor of Philosophy instead of Doctor of Science in Information Assurance.

Just curious, from what do you base the school's popularity on?

For the OP, I recently met two graduates from Capitol College (MSEE's), both who work for a large defense contractor and spoke highly of the school. Which degree are you looking at? I've also talked to a few people on this board who are graduates of CC's MSIA program, and the more I hear the more I like. I know that most people will speak highly of the schools they are an alumni of, but I like the format; especially the live interaction between the students and professors in addition to asynchronous interactions. Seems like the benefits of face to face and the convenience of DL in the same package.

I live in Japan and had to wake up at 5 am to attend class, and I can honestly say it was well worth it.
When I started applying for positions in Japan I was surprised at how many managers knew about Capitol, and they thought highly of the college. I attended class with people who worked for the FBI, NSA, DEA, and other high profile companies. The professors were outstanding in creating real world scenarios, and to this day if I have a question concerning IA I can always go to the message board and get a response from a professor or former student. The biggest sell for me were the live classes, and if I missed a class it was recorded for me to download. Just adding my 2 cents worth but I think it’s a great college that has helped me advance in the federal government system. PS – If you do decide to go to Capitol make sure you take professor Cayot, the guy is a riot. He lives on a ranch and you can hear the sheep in the background, and he’s always yelling at his dogs while teaching. It’s a hard course but well worth it.

I just enrolled in Capitol's MSIA program. I see that they have courses broke into semesters and terms. How many classes should one take per term/semester? Would it be overload to take one semester class and then two term classes at once? Or more advisable to take one per term and one per semester?
    Thanks!

The classes run in 8 week terms with some running 14 weeks long. If you to be considered a full-time student, you will need to take 9 credits over a 16 week period. Full-time should get you in and out within 1 year, but you can take 1 course/per 8 week term and be considered as part-time. I enrolled but haven't signed up for any classes as of yet because I'm waiting to finish my current degree. I would take the 3 classes that they recommend you take first and depending on their length/availability, you will have to determine how you want to take them. I usually take the time to plan out my entire schedule for the year so I'm not waiting another year for a class to be available.

It depends on your free time.

I did 9 hours a semester. So, one 12 week class paired with two 8 week classes. It takes time management, but it's achievable.

At the time I was only working about 55 hours a week.

Thanks for your input! I signed up for 3 courses. One semester, one term 1, and one term 2 course.
