I'm looking at colleges to get an Associates (or maybe Bachelor's) IT-related degree. I'm not completely sure, but Computer Information Services looks like the closest to what I want. Website or Hardware -related would probably be second and third possibilities. I have some experience already building and running websites, web scripting and coding (php mostly), a little non-web coding (mostly QBasic 4-7 years ago when I was a newbie nerd ), and hardware (I built the computer I'm using now from components). So I could probably CLEP/test out of most basic/general computer courses, HTML/CSS/Javascript/PHP and maybe E-commerce. Are there any students (former or current) that can tell me if Penn Foster's programs are modern and if they're fairly advanced and complete? Do they have a way to test or CLEP out of courses I already understand? And do they have a good reputation among those making hiring decisions or are there better alternatives? Thanks for the help.
The big question is "what are you looking to do with it"? If it's hands-on, then certs may provide a quicker return on your investment than a degree. I'm not an expert on Penn Foster, but purely from my perspective I think there are better schools out there, like a state school with a MIS program.
