I want to take this to test out of IT103. I need at least a 75 in order to get credit. I read a couple of other posts and one person said they got a 71 and people told him that was a great score. I am scared if 71 is hard to get and thats 4 points below the lowest score I can get the it might be too hard to take this test.

Has the scoring system changed? Is it easier to get a 75 now?

That's a pretty good point. Now, if someone with little technical computer knowledge went in and got a 71 - that is very impressive. But if you are an IT or CS major, you could probably take it in your sleep. Definitely get a good guide and study the test specifically.

I frequently hear that Info Systems is the easiest CLEP test there is, since computers and systems are easy topics to immerse yourself in. If that's your major, you're probably already at least at the 60-point range, you just got to get the rest of the way there. :)

Worth a shot to take it, I'm taking it to CLEP out of an IS req for school (I work in development, so not worth the money to take "Intro to Word" haha).

That seems odd because the scale is 20-80. You need to basically max out the test when the passing score is 50. Are you sure it is a score of 75?

  5. Someone with a lot of experience could potentially get over 75. I can't recall my score, being years ago, but I'm almost 100% sure it was over 75.

If you want to be really confident, check out the knowledge required at:

PassYourClass has a study guide available:

Peterson's also offers some practice tests:

I can't vouch for any of these, but you might get a "feel" for how you do prior to the exam. If you know you're close to a 75 or so you should just go take it, but if you're falling really short then reconsider, if you really need a 75 for credit. ACE itself recommends a 50 for receiving college credit.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think CLEPs are graded to have a mean of 50 with a standard deviation of 10. I think a 75 would put you in the 98th or 99th percentile!

With 20 years' IT experience primarily in networking and PC support, I was able to take this exam cold and pass easily with a 71. At the school(s) I intend to use this for, a passing grade is fine.
