It's difficult to think of a modern professional career track that does not involve some measure of computer expertise. For example, who would have thought that I'd be manipulating pivot tables all day instead of burning steel? Not me. I've had to learn all the computer stuff along the way. Some people have that in their dights from the beginning. Others pick it up as needed. What about creating a (short) list of computer skills that might benfit everyone? Where can we learn those skills? What are the most useful certifications? Certs that cross the boundaries of professions.
The widest computer skills that cross most professions is learning how to use MS Office. You could try something like these for simple certs. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/msbc/requirements/default.mspx
Thanks. I've got most of that stuff down. I wasn't aware that there were certs for those types of things. I'll have to look at those. I'm also interested in maybe the next level up. Engineering/business. I think that I might do the sigma six green belt then the black belt.
It depends upon what type of job you do. Computer skill is required for all official job today but it totally depends on the need of work and there are a lot of places and institute for training you in computer field.
