"Might" should be the operative word here. It is highly unlikely that an IT recruiter would overlook a prospective candidate with an exceptional track record, extensive experience and recommendation with the minimal educational requirements simply due to missing some specialized certification. Albeit systems administration and networking is one area of IT where certification can sometimes give you a slight advantage during the interviewing process.
Re: Re: Some issues you might run into in the IT job market... I see HR people do this to IT people often.
Re: Re: Some issues you might run into in the IT job market... That may be your experience, mine have been very different. I have seen on almost every occasion that HR does a basic sorting process... Do they have a degree? Yes Pile/No Pile Sort the Yes pile by: Do they have XYZ Certificaiton? Yes Pile/No Pile Sort Yes Pile: NOW, do they have a X years expereince.... Because there is such high demand for the good IT positions there are many applicants and HR has to have a set process. I have a friend who work for the State of Delaware. When the state posts a low level IT position they get from 200-500 resumes. There is no time to read background, just education, then certs, then background... Hey lets face it, IT is great work. I was a plumber for several years and definatly enjoy my heated desk to the sewage smell of a crawl space.....
