I'm looking to break into the Information/Network Security field. Instead of the usual B.S. in Computer Science at a state university, I thought about a local community college that offers an AAS in Network Design and Administration with an emphasis on security.

I just want to break-in entry level and work my way up. But one of my big concerns is that the credits from that AAS won't be transferable when I choose to pursue a BS.

Can someone give me some advice please?

It depends on the BS program. If you look at a traditional state-school route, the AAS is usually thought of as a terminal degree. If you look at some other route, like a BS from one of the Big 3 (COSC, Excelsior, or TESC), you would probably be able to transfer all 60 credits. Other colleges are more flexible than you may thing.

If you have a BS program in mind, check with them. I hope this helps.

Very true. My AAS was from CCAF (Community College of the Air Force), and Bellevue was willing to take it credit for credit. The trick is to ask; never to early to map an education strategy.
