DesElms had previously written about Charles Sturt University's Master of IT programs, in which half of the twelve classes may be waived if the student holds certain Microsoft certifications. At the time, the database program was still in the "to be announced" stage. Well, it's out.

In a nutshell, the The Master of Database Design and Management (SQL Server 2005) program is based on the new Microsoft IT Professional series of certifications. You may select from one of two streams, the MCITP: Database Developer or MCITP: Database Administrator.

Here are the curricula for the two streams:

    Core Subjects
    ICT506 Topics in IT Ethics
    ICT516 Principles of Database Development
ITC517 Theory and Applications of Data Mining
    ITC518 Principles of Programming

    Elective Subjects (Choose 2)
    ICT505 Systems Development Project Management
    ICT563 IT Management Issues
    ICT514 Network and Security Administration
    ITC595 Information Security

    Stream A: Microsoft Database Administrator
    ITI555 - Operating System Essentials ([70-210 or 70-270] and 70-290)
    ITI556 - Supporting a Network Infrastructure I (70-291)
ITI598 - Implementing and Maintaining Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (70-431)
ITI592 - Planning and Designing Database Administration Solutions Using SQL Server 2005 (70-443)
ITI593 - Developing and Optimizing Database Administration Solutions Using SQL Server 2005 (70-444)
    ITI557 - Supporting a Network Infrastructure II (70-293)

    Stream B: Microsoft Database Developer
    ITI561 - Developing Web Applications (70-315?)
    ITI562 - Programming with Microsoft Languages (70-016 or 70-157 or 70-176?)
ITI564 - Analyzing Requirements and Defining Solution Architectures (70-100)
ITI598 - Implementing and Maintaining Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (70-431)
ITI594 - Planning and Designing Database Programming Solutions Using SQL Server 2005 (70-443)
ITI595 - Developing and Optimizing Database Programming Solutions Using SQL Server 2005 (70-442)

I have given what I believe to be the appropriate Microsoft certification for which academic credit will be awarded. There isn't much more information on the CSU Web site yet. As with the other IT Masters programs, the successful student ends up with a Master's degree and a major Microsoft certification at potentially USD$6,000 or so.

Is a MS degree from Charles Sturt transferable to say Nova??? I have a few misgiving about schools outside of the US. I think they also take the CISSP for MS credit...

I'm not sure in what sense you mean transferrable. As the preface to a Doctorate? You should inquire with Nova.

Sturt is accredited by the Australian equivalent of a U.S. regional agency. If there is any question by a school or employer as to the legitimacy of the courses, you can always have them evaluated by NACES or AACRAO.

Exactly. I want to make sure if chose CS that after completion i would be able to continue in a US school. Has anyone here been to CS?

Also, are those evaluation services fee based? Just asking cause im cheap....

So does this mean you would have to take Charles Sturt exams in addition to the MCDBA exams?

Take another look at DesElms's informative post on the other Sturt Master of IT programs. Of the twelve required classes, six will be waived upon earning the appropriate Microsoft certifications. The remaining six are normal, tested coursework classes.

Here, as is my unwritten policy with those preparing for research Doctorates, I will step out of the way and let you perform your own investigation. This is not being catty; I just believe when you make the decision to pursue a Doctorate you expand your role from an asker to an answerer of questions.

You not being catty at all.. I am looking for others experiences, and I think i should have been alittle clearer. It is a HUGH decision and Im sure no one would want to make recommendations that could prove disasterous. Besides if you cant find out for yourself, than you dont belong in a Doctorate Program....:D

I have contacted Nova, Ill post it here when I get a response.

    Thanks
