Hello everyone! I have been looking at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) they offer a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering with a major in Computer Forensics or Network Security that you can get by taking classes online. Undergraduate tuition is $7,500 for the semester. What does everyone think about this school? I want to work in the computer security field and I was thinking that this looks like a good way to go. Does anyone know of any comparable programs anywhere else? I appreciate everyones comments and suggestions! Thanks, Josh
I don't know about UAT but if you're interested in Forensics, check out http://www.champlain.edu/majors/digitalforensics/ The cost is the only thing that stopped me from pursuing a degree with them in Computer and Digital Forensics - it's also around $7500/Semester, so since you're obviously shopping in that price range, check them out. Thanks for the suggestion BlueMason. I am more interested in the Information Security field and actually after looking over their website they do have an online InfoSec degree! If anyone else is interested here it is: http://www.champlain.edu/coce/%5E/?pid=460 Truthfully $7,500/semester is way too high for me too It seems like a lot of colleges are offering InfoSec degrees now-a-days. And it is really hard to differentiate between what is good and what is not. Does anyone have any personal experience with: Champlain, UAT, or any other school that offers an InfoSec Bachelors degree? I was also thinking of just getting my BS in computer science and then waitng for my masters to specialize in security. I definatly want to get a degree rather than rely only on Certs. What do you guys think?
That's what I am doing also ( have Certs, getting more Certs and a degree ). The nice part about FHSU is that the core courses required for the networking give you the Cisco Netacademy Semesters 1 - 4, after which you take the CCNA You also receive a Certificate of Internetworking after completing a couple of other courses, so there are 'mini-milestones' along the way. After I complete the BS degree ( majoring in Computer Networking and Telecommunications ) I plan on getting a Masters in Network Security from Capitol College.... if all goes right, I'll be starting that in early 2008. A regular BS in CS will work if you're into the programming side of things ( which I am not ); there are many options out there so don't limit yourself...
