Does anyone know if, at least in the past, some of the WebCT courses at Excelsior College did not require a proctor? I am particularly interested in the following courses: Computer Architecture Data Structures & Algorithms Operating Systems Database Concepts I am taking at least two of the courses above since I need to take 2 Excelsior College courses to satisfy the requirements of the "tuition plus enrollment" program that let me pay $295 for enrollment instead of $995.
I can tell you the CIS Project Management course doesn't, but I don't have any specific info regarding the courses you've listed. I'd be interested in the response myself. Have you asked your advisor to check?
Thanks Robert. I just now sent an e-mail to the academic advisors and will post the response when I get it. I hope their response isn't too hedged, so I also am asking them if there is any way to get a syllabus before registering for a course.
I took the Database Concepts class and it was not proctored. I have taken a total of 5 classes through Excelsior and none of them have been proctored. Nadine
That is good news. Database Concepts is one of my requirements as well, though I'm thinking about trying the ICCP first. How was the course? What else have you taken?
Thanks for the great info!! I'm also thinking about doing 2 courses so as to save $ with the tuition plus program. Nadine, How much time per week did you spend for each course? Brandon
I'm unsure if I took a different course than the one you guys are referring to: Database Concepts. The course I took was Database Systems (CIS 370). At any rate, I am pursuing a Business degree with a concentration in Management Information Systems so most of my classes so far have been business courses. Anyway, to answer your questions, the classes I have taken and am currently taking through Excelsior are: Financial Accounting Managerial Accounting Database Systems Micoeconomics College Algebra The time spent per week on each course really varies with the course. On some, you read that week's chapter and take a quiz - nothing more. So depending on how long it takes to study the chapter, how difficult the material is, determines how much time you will be spending that week. In the case of Database Systems, there was also an assignment due every week which would usually take at least a couple of hours. I think you can count on studying a minimum of 6 hours of week per class. Maybe more but probably not less. Nadine
Here is the unequivocal response I recevied today from an advising asistant from Excelsior College's "Technology Advising Team": Regarding syllabi:
