I have a recent Java text book and I'm going through it and doing all the assignments on my own.

Are there any test I can take to get college credit?

You can try to challenge a Java course at Athabasca University.

If cost is a factor (and it usually is), some community colleges have online courses in Java.

Excelsior College also offers its own online WebCT courses called "Object Oriented Programming" and "Advanced Object Oriented Programming." Both use Java as the programming language for the course and each course is $750.
