I am interested in either obtaining a degree in Management Information Systems or Network/Internet Security and maybe even both. I would like to ask the help of everybody here to give me the names of the schools which are: 1. Regionally accredited; and 2. Has an online program that offers a Bachelor's in either MIS or Network/Internet Security. So far, I only know 3 schools: 1. University of Maryland University College (no plan of going here) 2. University of Phoenix (no plan of going here) 3. Baker College Please please PLEASE list more schools so I can make the correct choice. Thanks.
It isn't Regionally Accredited (instead having a Royal Charter) and it isn't "Management Information Systems" (instead being "Information Systems & Management"), but there is the University of London's program (lead school is the LSE).
Western Governors University has a pretty cool system. For a BSCIS you just have to pass their assessment tests. They assign you a mentor to help you plan you studies. They also have a BS in IT with a concentration in Network Managment.
Bachelors degrees in this area are few that I have found but some options: http://online.misu.nodak.edu/html/degree_programs.html http://www.bellevue.edu/degrees/mis.asp You can also finish a concentration in this area with Empire State College, Charter Oak State College, and potentially a couple of others. Good luck.
wow, too many great replies! these will certainly help me decide. thanks again guys and keep 'em coming! EDIT: can someone help me come up with the correct keywords so i can look this up myself either on this forum's search engine or on google? what keywords do i have to use - "online OR distance bachelor" (without the quotes)?
for Google: online bachelors in MIS online bs mis distance bs mis You will get some mills so check back if you find one and you aren't sure. You might also search for: bs business information systems or bs bis you will find two different types of prrograms, some with a technical emphasis and some with a managerial emphasis. lastly, go to www.geteducated.com and download the freebies for business and technical programs.
I find it useful to limit you search using the "advanced search option" to domains ending in ".edu". I find this pretty effectively gets rid of the diploma mills and other rift raft.
ok, not more than 30 seconds after the suggestions made by a couple of posters here on how to search google, this one came up first: 4. UMass - Lowell (http://continuinged.uml.edu/online/BSIT_BusinessMinor_online.htm) of course, i'll do a search for UML here on degreeinfo, on studentsreview.com, epinions, etc. but if someone currently attending UML or has graduated from that school happens to be reading this thread, please comment. hopefully, i'll find more schools.
5. Western Governors University (http://www.wgu.edu/information_technology/programs.asp) i'm most impressed with WGU. as soon as i got on their site, a LIVE agent window popped up and i was able to talk to her! pretty cool. also, their list of programs is AWESOME! so far, it's number 1 on my list currently...
6. Excelsior College (https://www.excelsior.edu/portal/page?_pageid=57,84867&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL) i'm a little put off because i can't find the curriculum for the information security and network management programs. that's a bit of a bad thing. i mean, why make it difficult for prospective students? sure, there's a list of ALL the courses available but how do i know which ones are for information security and network management? 7. Minot State University (http://www.misu.nodak.edu/msu_web/undergrad_catalog/bus_06.html#03) i'll be honest, the name "minot" made me smile a little. i don't know why, but "minot" sounds funny (to me, at least). probably because in my language it sounds pretty close to... (insert guess here) but they do have solid MIS program. it's a bit too much on the business side, though...
8. Bellevue University (http://www.bellevue.edu/degrees/mis.asp) another one suggested by the very helpful fed. not that good because their curriculum (i think/feel) is too short. there's a good balance though between business and IT courses in the program...
one thing that i have to mention (in case other posters have a school recommendation) is NOT to recommend a school which has a reputation of being an "online school." i'd explain why but i'm afraid that if i do, the direction of this thread will go somewhere else and not stick to the topic. thanks.
9. Colorado Technical University (http://www.ctuonline.edu/infotech/bsba_it.asp) probably is last on my list. not really much to say...
10. Old Dominion University (http://www.dl.odu.edu/programs/ugmajors/bpa-is/index.html) how could i've forgotten this one? i live only a few minutes from the campus so maybe that's why it didn't popped in my head when i was thinking of (other) colleges offering distance education. one thing i don't like about ODU's program is that i think it has too many subjects on programming... at least during the early parts of the program. but after that, it focuses on the subjects i'm interested in... probably number 2 on my list...
seems like you have shifted focus a little so take a look here: http://www.snhu.edu/Southern_New_Hampshire_University/Distance_Ed/DE_Course_Information/DE_UnderGrad_Programs.html
