i am ready to enroll in the fall for computer science degree i have narrowed my choices down to these two schools. Anybody out there can help me out in my decision. Baker College has current computer courses that i know i would enjoy taking, but they are on the quarter system @ 175 a piece...could get expensive Troy Univ has older classes available (my goodness Cobol), is semster credit based and will accept more of my credits than Baker I suspect. At Troy I can minor in military science and business with major in computer science. I am aware that it is not a true C/S degree. Frankly programming bores me.. scripting i like better...I just need the paper saying Bachelors. Would like to learn more about Business Continuity if possible. I'm more undecided now after writing this post. Help
From your own words and goals it sounds as though Troy University is the better match. Believe it or not COBOL is still used and the number of trained COBOL programmers is on the decline and most COBOL-using organizations like a balance between technical skills and business background (education) as they tend to be coinservative organizations. Fort Hayes State University offers a bachelor degree in networking and telecommunications.
It seems to me that a better fit for you would be a BA/BS in Business Administration or Management Information Systems (or some mix of the two.) While most computer science degrees aren't programming degrees, you will have to use programming in almost every class you take. Since, your interests seem to not be concentrated in technology, it seems you need a degree that gives you a little from business and a little from information systems. But believe me, you don't necessarily need a CS degree if you are just interested in scripting web sites! So, you may want to investigate some business oriented degrees to see if you could have all your interests addressed.
serino78, you may want to review my post a few threads down. Troy has revamped their BSCS degree plan, and they have not updated all of their website to reflect those changes.
Troy has announced in the past week that they are changing the Computer Science program to an Applied Computer Science Program. Those that are already in the program have two options, one to stay in the current program and two to change to the new format. The old classes will be phased out over the course of the next year. I haven't seen the new degree program for DL students but you can go to http://www.troy.edu/catalogs/0506undergrad/index.html Here you can get a better idea of the difference between the two. Jeremy

Each Troy University Region degree's/course offerings vary. The florida and western region distance learning computer science degree is BSACS (Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science). The Fort Benning benning.troy.edu (Southeast region) DL computer science degree is still a BSCS (Bachelor of Science in Computer Science) the only changes is to curiculum itself not the degree. The good thing is, you can take courses from any Troy location if you find a course that's not offer by your home campus. I'm currently taking course between the two (fwr and fort benning) since FWR is still offering some of the older (before the program change) courses. FYI, fort bennings tuition is cheaper ($150 per sh) than FWR ($163 per sh) and I still haven't figured this one out. Also, if you live within driving distance from Fort Benning and you are currently enrolled in a DL class,you have the option of attending class in person at anytime during the term while taking class online. So, you have the best of both worlds.IMHO.
