I need to buy a book on SQL and Apache. I don't know anything about either so I need a basic book and I will not need to know advanced topics...just the basics.

I was thinking of buying the "For Dummies" books. Any suggestions?

The O'Reilly books usually get good reviews and can be had for less than the list prices indicated. A site like Amazon should have user reviews for any book of interest.

Here is a good web site for the beginners http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp This tutorial is as good as a dummies book.

Please let me know what RDBM system you will be working on (ex: Microsoft SQL server, Oracle or MySQL), based on that I can recommend the SQL book.

I agree with the O'Reilly suggestion. All of their books are well produced. I have found that the for dummies books and Idiots guide books sometimes useful for a basic explaination of a topic, but for in depth books to which you will continue to refer as you work ora.com is the place to go.

Of course apache.org is quite helpful but it lacks the cute animals of ora.com.

Get some webspace on a host that uses apache (I use dreamhost -many others are available) and some flavor of sql ( I use MySQL) and play around with it in your own sandbox. That way it does not matter if you screw it up. I have found the best way to learn.
