I am looking for a degree in network security, preferably RA. Anybody have any experience with ECPI? They have an AS that seems to fit the bill for what I'm looking for, but it seems a bit pricey. ($27,840 total for 74 credits)

I did my B.S. in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College and then enrolled into Capitol College's M.S. in Network Security. I knocked out the Excelsior degree with some B&M and a lot of Credit by Examination. Capitol will cost you at least $13,000 to complete the program.

I was in the military when I did the Excelsior degree so it cost me about $1500.00 out of pocket. So that's like $14,500 for my education so far. Excelsior's B.S. can be knocked out at low cost to anyone.

Capitol also offers an B.S. in Network Security although it in not online.

What I'm saying is you can knock out your M.S. in the field for much less than $27K. Hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

Sounds like a good oppportunity! Looks like this is sponsored by NSA and will lead to full-time position with a clearance.

The fact of the matter is that I need an online program, either at the AS or BS level, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I have 26 months left on my MGIB and have already accumulated a lot of credits (civilian and military)

Sounds like you need to take a look at Excelsior College cash all those credits in. I am biased but with many other institutions you'll waste a lot of credits.

That's why I didn't finish up with UMUC. They had of course residency requirements. I was faced with taking like 15 courses with them or testing out of like 10 more subjects. I chose to cash my credits in.

Your MGIB will definitely pay for the Masters Program with Capitol or anywhere else for that matter. It's up to like $1K a month.

Use all the credits and all the money you can get.

    hold your horses

    Where did it say that?

NSA accredited does NOT mean NSA sponsored. Even if it were, its easier to get your degree than the security clearance required to work there. Not knocking you, if you truly want to work for the agency more power to you. It's just really hard to get in if you don't already have a clearance (like prior military for instance).

    Good luck all the same.

I've never taken a course from ECPI, but I will never forgive them for running ad after ad touting how attending their school would make people set for a "exciting, high-paid career in IT" in the middle of the worst hiring environment in IT that I can remember back in 2001-2003. They were selling a pipe dream to a lot of people who borrowed money to attend their school, then found themselves back waiting tables because there were no IT jobs to be found. Seems to me that they specialize in kicking people who are down, and I wouldn't want to be associated with that type of organization.

I know that sounds very harsh, but I had a lot of friends who chose ECPI instead of other schools, and none of them had very long IT careers.

If you look deeper at the requirements it mentioned must be U.S. citizen, subject to polygraph and DOD sponsored. Connect the dots.
