Hello Guys, As part of the CIS degree from Excelsior I will be required to do a "High level Structured Language" course. Excelsior offers such a course ( 3 credits) at a cost of 240 * 3 (ie $720). Is this resonable? Where else can this be statistied at a cheaper cost? Thanks Mark
I can't judge if that's reasonable or not, but I know one good way to find the cheapest tuition is to look for public colleges in your home state that offer a lower tuiton rate for in-state students. Some places charge the same for distance courses, but others still have dramatic rate differences, like $500 per credit out-of-state vs. $100 in-state.
How can you tell what their tuition is?!?! I looked at their page and it pretty much tells you to call to find out. I just want to see the tuition rates, not to talk to some idiot trying to sell me something! It reeks of snake oil salesman and used cars!
720 per 3 hr class is correct cost for Excelsior course. It may change and increase though with the new year 05 approaching. 720 per class is expensive in my opinion, I have found some schools that offer classes between 300 to 480 for a 3hr course. You need to search around, there are better and cheaper deals out there even if you are attending as a out of state student for online classes. What type of classes are you looking for & what state are you in?
I am really looking for courses to satisfy excelsior CIS requirements. Namely, "High level structured language", "Database concepts", "Data structures", "Data communications", "Operating Systems", "Systems Analaysis", and "Discrete mathematics". I am all the way in Jamaica. I will travel to the US to do the exams.
There are a ton of community colleges offering those kinds of courses. A good place to search for individual courses is this link: http://www.sreb.org At the 4-year college level, Troy State is cheaper ($150 per credit) and seems to have a decent CIS/programming selection. Take a look at their link: http://www.tsufb.edu/dl.cfm
Like the guy above just said, there are loads of courses available through 2 yr colleges. Do all of theses need to be upper level classes for a BS degee or something? Troy State is good one too they are cheap. That's correct. Excelsior will only apply credits from Community Colleges to lower level. I suggested Excelsior to a coworker and he is pleased with the two CIS courses he's in. Good luck!
