On behalf of my brother-in-law, has anybody seen or have knowledge of the differences in employability amongst the four major IT areas at the Bachelor's degree level?

Specifically, his options at his B&M school are Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, and Computer Engineering (ABET approved). He wants the most bang for his education buck when he's done, and he's by no means lazy, but he's not sure if it's worth all the extra effort and sleepless nights to get the Computer Engineering degree when closely related and less rigorous options are available.

His sister (my wife) and his oldest brother are both CompEng types and make significantly more money than CIS/CS grads do, but he's not particularly all that financially motivated.

    Any thoughts for him?

    Thanks!!

Interesting article below regarding your question

"In 1997, for example, Eugene Spafford, a professor of computer science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., warned members of Congress that of 5,500 doctorates in computer science and engineering awarded by North American universities between 1992 and 1997, only eight were awarded to U.S. citizens."

I like the CIS and the MIS as they are broader ranging. However, based on the above the engineering degree may well be the ticket.

To get the most bang include business classes as electives. Computerworld also has a salary survey or you can try www.salary.com to get a picture of where the best return is on career.

    Regards,
