After watching me work on a DL Masters, my wife has decided to do the same. She's zero'd in on Capitol College and its rather unique M.S. in Information Security.

Anyone care to comment on their experiences at Capitol? It appears that distance classes can be taken real-time or asynchronously.

High difficult is the program? E.g. how many hrs/week are required per course.

Any insight, as always, is appreciated.

Just for clarification, Capitol offers an MS in Network Security and an MS in Information Architecture, but not an MS in Information Security.

I took two NS courses and three IA courses as electives toward my MS in Computer Science. The courses are a combination of synchronous and asynchronous, with attendance being required at a certain day and time for the live lectures (generally one 3 to 3.5 hour session every week for each course). The lectures utilize slides and sometimes application integration in conjunction with live two-way audio (you use a microphone attached to your PC to talk) and supplemental text chat. It's pretty much like being in a classroom except that noone would know if you're in your underwear.

My courses generally required about 10-20 hours per week each, with some exceptions that required significantly more (one of my CS courses and my capstone CS project course each required way more time/work). Of course you may need to put in some extra time when there's a paper due or when there's an exam coming up. Each course also requires at least one proctored exam.

I would say that all of my courses were of good quality, with the exception of one IA course that was a big disappointment in terms of rigor, though that instructor was new and I noticed that he doesn't seem to be teaching any more. The other two IA courses were both good, so I think it was an anomaly. Both of my NS courses were good quality and very enjoyable. The MS in NS is structured such that graduates are supposed to be prepared for the CISSP, though many students in my NS courses already had it.

The staff at Capitol is very responsive, and I never got the feeling that I was just a number. Whenever I had a problem they always did what they could to resolve it positively within the boundaries of school policy. I'd definitely recommend the school.
