Need your help in picking institution

I have recently completed my A.S. in Computer Networking from Keiser College and am planning to pursue a Bachelor's degree.

The problem I have is that I am working and don't have time to go to a "proper" college like the University of Central Florida.

I am asking you for your advice about possible colleges I can go to online in order to get that Bachelor's degree.

The Bachelor's degree I want has to be in an IS or IT field. An information security degree is always a plus since I do specialize in security.

The problem I am currently having is picking an institution that potential employers will respect. Maybe I'm paranoid but for profit universities like UoP, Capella, Kaplan, etc. seem like they have very loose grading systems where the goal is to get the degree but not the information and knowledge. After seeing sites like UoP Sucks and Capella University Sucks I complerely lost faith in the worth of the degrees they offer.

I did search the forums but couldn't find a certain institution that was very popular. It seemed like there were far too many places people went to and almost all got mixed reviews.

So far I am considering the following institutions:

    University of Maryland
    Park University
Bellevue University (Good reviews but what's up with that name?)

Again my number one requirement is employer recognition of the potential degree.

I appreaciate all the help you can give me.

I might be mistaken, but I think both Nova and FSU offer online bachelor degrees in CS. Since you are a Florida resident that would qualify you for in-state tuition.

    Look at http://ww2.cs.fsu.edu/~peeler/distance.html.

I just started in Bellevue's Business Information Systems program. I like that I can blast it out in 15 months (or less if I do the Kirkpatrick stuff concurrently). They took a ton of my lower division credits too. I transfered in 81 semester hours, so I only have 36 to complete the program. It seems rigorous enough. Note that it's not CS, but BIS.

Oh no! What's that Carpathian doing in this forum?

    Hi webwarden:

The name thing with Bellevue is that it's located in Bellevue, Nebraska. When I first heard of it all I could think of was Bellevue Hospital in NYC (too?). No connection!

I have no firsthand experience with the three schools you mention, but a former friend was doing an IT-related master's at UMUC and was well-pleased, and, yes, all the reports I've heard on Bellevue have also been positive. Park University is but a name to me--I know nothing of it either good or bad.

Best of luck to you. This has been my semi-annual post on the IT forum. 'Bye.

Nova is additionally a CAEIAE - designated as such by the NSA.
