    Hi everyone,

I want to get your feedback on what would be the best path to get up the ladder to a PhD in CS or other related field. I have a plan to complete a BS from Troy in CS and then do a Masters degree in the same field. Which university would be best for Master degree so that eventually I can get into a PhD. A program that can fulfill admission requirements of PhD as well give a good education and knowledge. I can look at other MS and PhD programs beside CS but which are a little bit relevant (or should I look at getting Business Masters degree after BS). Is there a PhD in IT or Networking or Information Systems that people can get into?

Everything depends on what you want to do. An MS in CS will get you one type of job, very tecnical, while an MS in ITM or Business would prepare you for a management position.

I know there are many good quality MS degree in CS. As far as a PhD, I think there is a partnership program that involves Indiana University and it requires a residence.

I will keep looking for a link.

    Randell,

You may be thinking about Indiana State's PhD in Technology Management. Its a combination of eight or so schools including East Carolina University. It looks pretty good, but I do not know much about it.

    etech,

If you are looking for a solid CS degree look at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana's program.

search the forum for the Indiana State program.

You have to be admitted to all the schools in the consortium for which you need to take classes. Secondly it is a PhD in Technology Management so it doesn't really fit into the normal business or science school. There are some very good tracts in the program but I don't know anyone who has completed the program. It also looks like it is geared towards industry and manufacturing but the Digital Communications concentration appeals to me.
