Hi, I am new to this forum and need advise of members of this forum. I have BS in Chemical Engineering. For the past five years I have been working in the IT field as a programmer. Now I am thinking to do masters and have two choices in mind. One is MS in MIS and one is MS in CIS. Can anybody shade some light on which program would be best for me keeping in mind current and future IT market.
    Thanks,

I can't answer your question but I did look for those two programs to compare and do not see them at UH.

CIS is more technical so it is more suitable for technical positions as programmer, DBA, network administrator, etc. MIS, on the other hand, prepares you for less technical and more management oriented positions as business analyst, systems analyst, information management, etc. In practice, MIS professionals can be more technical and CIS professionals more management oriented.

As for trend, it seems that the outsourcing of source code to India and China will continue so it is more likely that progamming positions will srink with the time, so MIS might be a better bet but in the IT business everything can change from one day to another.
