Has anyone here ever sent a Microsoft transcript to Charter Oak State College to be evaluated? I have MCSE on Windows NT 4.0 (my electives were IIS 3.0 and TCP/IP), and I'd like to know what I may get for it that applies to the Information Systems concentration. COSC will have me evaluated in a few weeks, so I'll find out for sure then, but I have to wait for a half dozen transcripts to get there before they start and I'm impatient to get a sense of how much (if any) MCSE will do for me. -=Steve=-
I have my MCSE NT 4.0 and MCP+I. My electives were IIS4, TCP/IP, and IEAK 4.0. I do not remember how many credits I got but it followed the Excelsior guidelines. Here is the link - http://www1.excelsior.edu/itweb/certsite.htm
Re: Re: MCSE Certification and Charter Oak Oy vey. On the one hand, I'm happy that those guidelines say twelve credit hours, as that's what I was expecting. On the other hand, only two of those hours are listed as "Upper" and I was seriously hoping for at least three Upper level credits from it. As Mencken said, though, "It is better to know than to be ignorant." At least I can plan better now.... Thanks, -=Steve=-
More musings If Charter Oak really does hold to the Excelsior list, I could get E-Biz+ and Security+ and it would bring my Upper level credits up to six hours, which is what I really need. I've been in information security and e-commerce for several years, so I can't imagine they're too difficult. Comments? I also recall that Charter Oak says one can't apply more than six hours from certifications to one's concentration. Anyone know if there's a limit to the credit from certifications one can apply as electives? -=Steve=-
On a related note and if it hasn't been before noted - Excelsior announces more Cisco and Microsoft exams accepted for credit. That's all I know but the info can be had at www.itdegree.com .
More questions The funny thing is that if none of my MCSE credit applies as Upper level, I may end up using it all as elective credit rather than as part of my concentration. Let me switch gears. What experiences have people had with getting Information Systems credit by portfolio from Charter Oak? If that's not possible, I may be stuck actually taking a course here, and it would be one of those expensive ones from a four year school, and worse, LSU doesn't have online IT courses! Another question: the Information Systems concentration has a requirement for a course in software engineering or "Computer Organization". Anyone have experience with COSC's definition of the latter? -=Steve=-
I just looked at my transcript and I have 31 credits from my MS exams, and 11 of them are upper level. I took the 292 ans 296 upgrade tests for 2003 and they didn't give me any credits for those, but they do have credits for the individual tests. Maybe I will take the 293 and 294, I get MS tests for free and the would be 5 upper level credits.
Really? Really? Is that a Charter Oak transcript or an Excelsior transcript? Which exams have you taken? -=Steve=-
