Does such a IT program exist? - Long!

    Greetings to all!

I've recently returned to college after a 10yr break. I choose to start over because my GPA was horrendous when I left the first time (the stuff we do when we are younger!). So I needed to find a program that would allow me to take ALL the courses online. Thanks to this site and Bears' guide, I have been enrolled at CCoM for a year now, hold a 3.5 GPA, and will have 47 hours after this term (military exp helped).

After leaving the Army I have been working in an IT position for 6 years. Doing everything from running cat5 to administrating networks. I maintain websites, servers, network security, etc. I also love law enforcement so I have a part-time job as a sheriff’s deputy in my county.

When I decided to return to college I choose a CJ degree because of my love of LE, and if I ever left this IT job I would pursue LE. BUT! I'm having second thoughts. I really love my IT job too, and I may pursue another if I ever leave it. So, most HR-Mgrs I have spoke to in the LE field have told me they typically don't care what the degree is in, so long as the officer holds one.

Obviously HR-Mgrs in the IT field ARE going to care what my degree is in. So I figure better to get an IT degree and I could still go either way. As-a-matter-of-fact, some of the HR-Mgr in the LE field I spoke to said they would almost prefer a IT degree.

And here's my dilemma. I HATE MATH. Seriously, I've tried and tried again, I just hate it. I did complete College Algebra this year and I hated it the whole time. So I suppose I'm looking for an Information Systems or Technology degree? Which is fine because I'm not interested in programming.

And finally, considering everything I posted, does anyone have any suggestions on a IT program I could look at? Seems most the ones I have looked at are math intensive. And I would like to maintain RA, and stay on a accelerated term. That's not too much to ask is it? :p

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the help!

I finished an Associate in Computer Information Systems at my local community college and the highest math I had to take was College Algebra.

I then transferred into the Bachelors of Information Technology Program at American Intercontinental University and they accepted the associate as fulfilling all of the core, and I only had to complete upper division course work.

However, the IT degree did include a fair amount of programming. I had to take an SQL class, which is database administration with just a wee bit of VB mixed in, then I had to take two classes of visual basic, an intermediate and an advanced course. You also have to take a Linux networking course that includes a bit of shell scripting.

None of it was overly difficult so long as you did the reading and kept on top of the assignments. However, AIU tuition is very expensive. I could not have done it without a very liberal tuition reimbursement policy with my employer.

you can also look at COSC and Excelsior College. Although Excelsior does not have online courses but you can take courses elsewhere and transfer them. But for their CIS degree you have to take Discrete Maths. I am considering Excelsior's program seriously and have applied for credit evaluation.

Oherra: My local university only offers BSCS, so that's a no go for me. AIU sounds like it may be an option, but I am having a hard time finding any information on them EXCEPT to either contact them or leave info so they can contact you. I can't seem to locate tuition, schedules, etc. Searching this board confirms that they are indeed expensive. I don't mind a little exposure to programming, I just do not want the math that usually comes with it! :)

etech: Good suggestions, and I checked out 'the big three' initially. But as you stated, there are some math requirements. I really would prefer for someone to have a program I could follow.

Sadly, it seems my best option is going to be UoP. They have a accelerated program, offer the course types that I'm looking for (CIS or CIT), and are accredited. But good golly they are expensive! I've got a few more to check out, but it is not looking good. Seems crazy that there are not more offerings in this area.

also check BSMIS degree at Excelsior. They have College Algebra requirements which you already have and can transfer. I guess you may have to take a couple more courses but at College Algebra level. I would also check BSBA CIS at Thomas Edison. That program does not have too much Math requirements.
