is there somewhere where i can look at an exact listing for which certs count for what requirements there??? i see where its so many credit hours but dont want to take 8 mcse exams if im not going to get that many credits for it, etc. or should i just apply to excelsior and see what they tell me i need to do?
ahh, so looks to me most of those 100 dollar a piece mcse courses wouldnt be too worth it if they are only going to give 1 credit hour, out of 60 i probably need. seems better just to sit the ICCP :/
well, i would first like to get a degree so i can land a job and get ou of my current situation, if an mcs* or other complete certification happens to come with it great, but on a budget, so the cheapest and fastest route would probably be the one i would take.
MasterJ, I don't think it is a bad idea to take cert exams and college as the same time. Remember you earn both certification and college degree. For example: I received the MCP, MCSA, MCSE certifications with only 7 exams, and I didn't realize that I earned 15 college credits while in high school. If you take college classes, you have to pay the same or even more.....but the only thing you get is a college degree. College Degree + Certifications + Experience = THE BEST IN TECH FIELD.
on your last statement, thats what i hope and what i was hoping companies would be looking for, however i am rather lacking in the experience department as i have only recently turned 23, so obviously not much going to be referenced by a job. by the way which 7 (and only 7?) did you take to recieve all those certs??? didn't know you could take that few and come out with those... and are they still available and grant you those for the same certs? thanks.
MasterJ, Today in the modern World of technology; age is doesn't matter toward their experience. I earned those certifications when I was 17; and now I am 20. I took Windows XP Prof for MCP. Then I took the next 3 to become MCSA, and next three to be MCSE. I used to think that the name of the school is matter, but not anymore. Excelsior College doesn't sound a good name, but their degree is accreditted by TAC and ABET...And it is really easy to earn the degree from them too......All through examination. If you don't think Regional, TAC and ABET are important. You can look at Grantham University by DETC; however if you want to get your Master degree later on...DETC is not a good choice. What are you trying to achieve? If all you want is the piece of paper that says you have a degree, then good luck in whatever works for you (I did that). If, however, you want to actually LEARN something useful, then forget anything Microsoft-related. Their certs, like their software, are crap. Go for vendor-independent qualifications whenever possible. They won't be as likely to be devalued by "certificate sausage makers", as I call them. Look at CompTIA, ICCP, etc. I would just go for a Master's degree. POP QUIZ: Which professional qualification has only a 10% first time pass rate? A. The Bar B. Medical School C. CPA The answer is C! If you got that right, then subtract line 37 from line 45, and mail me a check for the remainder.
