    Subscription only

That link I posted is for FT.com which may be a subscription-only web site. I can't remember. The good thing is that the subscription is free. The only news service I actually pay for is the Wall Street Journal.

Somehow, I doubt that U.S. corporations are going to be worried if such legislation is introduced. Outsourcing IT support is a BIG money saver for most corporations. Even if outsourcing taxes are doubled in the months to come, corporations are still saving millions by having their IT requirements transferred to other countries like India.
Now on the flip side of the coin, if the U.S. government steps in to ban outsourcing, corporations will most likely move their IT divisions to countries where help desk support is less expensive and more remote (like in countries such as Romania, Malaysia, the Philipines and China).
The unfortunate part of this mess is that well educated IT professionals who live in America will have to either relocate or take a serious pay cut in order to keep their jobs.

I think this is a right move by the US govt.

As far as relocation of educated IT professionals of US, India does not have a policy of opening doors for foreign nationals to apply for a Job. There would be a havoc in parliament if something were to introduced. The same IT ministers and NASSCOM'ers protesting against the US proposed policy would not like foreigners taking jobs in India.

I hear that in order to help communities that have flooding problems, the U.S. Congress is going to pass a law to ban water from flowing downhill.

    Corporate Security ????????

I know the corporate bottom line is dollars, but do they really think by pulling jobs out of the US will help America as a whole? As we progress with outsourcing there are security concerns that have never been addressed before in corporate America such as how do you verify the integrity of your employees? Trade secrets can be exchange for pennies on a dollar, literally. This can happen in America also but if caught they can be prosecuted, but how do you prosecute someone in another country? I know this may sound a little extreme but I think it's a valid question for outsourcing companies to examine.

  7. Thurow article on globalization...

I don't know how many of you read CIO Magazine, but a recent edition had an interesting article by MIT great Lester Thurow....

    http://www.cio.com/archive/121503/interview.html

Lester talks about globalization, and the need for the US to have an economic policy that is at least as good as our political policies, in particular as they relate to Asia.

In brief, Thurow says that if this administration doesn't do something about the outsourcing of IT jobs "there won't be a second Bush administration".

Halelujah..... (and this is coming from someone who at one time voted Republican - no more.)
