Hello again all of you. Thank you for all of your help in my decisions about my degree. I wanted to update you all on my status so far as things are progressing.

I contacted Excelsior College and unfortunately their Customer Service is a little cold. They didn't really help me and didn't seem to want to answer questions. I came back to the forum and decided to give TESC and COSC a try. At TESC, not as bad but I still didn't feel as comfortable as I did with COSC. I can say from the jump COSC is a much warmer, friendlier place. They didn't rush me off the phone and answered more for me. I liked Excelsior on paper, but was taken aback by their lack of interest in you as a prospective student, like my cash wasn't green!

Anyway, COSC has similar requirements, is accredited and was 1000% warmer making me feel secure and at home. I wanted to drop this message in the forum so all other students in my shoes who are new to distance learning can understand this factor I was also unaware of, the quality of customer service at the big 3 DL schools. Out of the big 3, COSC has got my vote for best customer service hands down, I hope this piece of info helps all you newbies out their like myself. I feel better giving my $$$ to an institution who gives me more of the time of day.

    thanks for the info.

I have heard good things about COSC as well. The only problem is that they only offer BS in General Studies (with concentration ofcourse) which does not suit everyone.

Although I did not call TESC and Excelsior so I dont know how their phone support is but I did communicate with them by email. They have been quite responsive so far. and yes you are right you will not get too much info from Excelsior unless you register/enrol with them. I think TESC is the same also but I am not 100% sure.

    Excelsior

Even students enrolled in Excelsior have problems getting answers from them.

    Re: Excelsior

as I am considering Excelsior I wonder what is the reason for the above ? and should I be looking at a bad experience too ? Did anyone try to officially complain about this ?

I wonder how is TESC to work with ?

Because a lot of students do not CALL Excelsior; they expect to get speedy results by email, which is not exactly the easiest thing for a school to do (not just Excelsior, other schools have the same problem.. first come first serve). When you call, you talk to them right away, and may be able to get results right away. I have to admit, however, Excelsior seems to have a VERY long turn around time for their email responses. If you need a question answered and can't afford to wait for an email response, call.

    Best Regards,
    Bill

Like I said in the Customer Service department, COSC wins hands down. The quality of the education may be equivalent however. I guess academics and customer support for students are two different things. I think alot has to do with the fact that Excelsior is only beginning to teach courses. COSC and TESC are actual schools that have teachers and classes and are not degree granting associations. Thanks for your help all!!!!! The CAT
