I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death and I apologize if it has.

I just enrolled into the BSCS program with ACCIS last week. This was before I started reading about DETC and RA degrees. In fact, I just found out that there was a difference an hour ago. In anycase, I'm curious to know if it would still be worth it to get the degree.

My employer will completely reimburse me for getting it which is a plus. I'm just not sure if it would be a waste of time if I eventually plan on getting my Masters (not from ACCIS).

From what I've read in the forums and usenet a DETC degree is generally frowned upon and is considered worthless in most peoples' eyes. Is this really true?

I am not an expert on this matter and others will guide you better. But reading through all the info on this board and various other source over a course of time, it is clear that DETC Bachelor will NOT get you into RA Masters among various other recognition problems that you would have.

I would also like to add that I have also seen some discussion that some do accept it but your choice will be very limited.

RA is the gold standard. Not many universities accept DETC BSCS degree for the Masters admission. There are some exceptions.

Substitute the word "some" for "most" and I think that is a reasonably accurate portrayal of the view here.

I have always viewed DETC as an honest effort to provide quality assurance for programs. I do believe that they have made a some mistakes in whom they have chosen to accredit, but I believe the same of some of the regionally-accredited programs.

My primary concern with choosing a DETC degree is solely acceptability, both in employment and for higher education. I think this is when doing your due diligence comes in. Check with employers, check with potential graduate programs, and see what they all have to say.

In the US this may be true, but in other countries what matters, I believe, is the legitimacy of the institution and the degree.

In the UK, The IEE have recognized my MBA courses from CSU (a DETC accredited institution).
