In today's market do you still think its worth the effort and time to study for the mcse certification or will the MCSA do just as well? what are your thoughts ?
I don't know... if I had to pick one, I would go for the MSCE (based on the info presented herehttp://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/mcsa/mcsa_mcse.asp). I've never heard of the MSCA credential before.
It depends what your goal is. If you already have the A+ and N+ the MCSA would only require two or three tests. The MCSE would be six. If your goal is Network Admin or Engineer then the MCSE is worth it. If you are doing tech support then MCSA may do. In this market certs are nice but only work experience and personal contacts will get you the job.
I don't know about Illinois, but in CA, when a job ad posts for like a Network admin position, hundreds of MCSE resumes gets faxed and sent in. MCSA by it's very nature as Manjuap said is a subset of MCSE so if your goal is a net admin type position an MCSA qualification is sure to get you on the immediate bottom of the stack if not immediately in the trash.
MCSE definitely!!!!!! I have both the MCSA and MCSE and I can say from experience that my MCSE was mostly responsible for opening doors, my MCSA was just icing on the cake. Also by completing you MCSE, your upgrade path to Windows 2003 is easier as well. I am in the process of completing the two exams to become Windows 2003 certified as MCSE (70-292 and 70-296) My motto has been "get the most you can get" as you can see the IT market is not that hot right now. Do it all and breathe easy afterward.........
I got my MCSE on NT 4.0 and took electives that never applied to the work I was doing - it was a waste of time and money (the electives). I got my MCSA because I work with the core of Windows 2000 that runs with software that my company wrote. Any electives I need for the MCSE on 2000 would be another waste of time and money. My advice - get your MCSA and wait and see where you will work OR where your interests are before getting you MCSE. Another way to look at it...Why keep getting certs if you do not use the product and the product contantly changes. I plan to maybe get my MCP on Windows 2003 and stop the certification madness
Re: Re: Mcse Vs Mcsa That assumes they are hiring based only on certifications and ignore work experience related to the position. People like to say "all things being equal," but no two applicants will have exactly identical work experience.
