I have a question for those who have or are about to graduate from AIU, Touro and other similar expensive DL universities. Do you think you are better off that you graduated or will be graduating from AIU or Touro ? Would it have made any difference if you had graduated from Excelsior instead ? Afterall they are all RA and DL.

Do you think it would have had any negative impact in terms of getting employment or further admission if you had graduated from Excelsior or TESC instead of AIU or Touro. On the other had why do you think you are better off graduating from AIU or Touro instead of Excelsior or TESC ?

Going through Excelsior or TESC would have saved you thousands of dollars and in this down economy do you agree that you should have saved that money and should have gone with cheaper alternatives ? A DL degree is a DL degree afterall.

    etech ,
I believe I will be a little better off graduating from a campus that has an established land campus. From what I understand excelsior does not have a established land campus and there fore solely distance oriented . Aiu is more of a extention campus and thus the the repution of the land campus will be associated with the degree. I do not know about touro seeing as though I have never attended class there but I dont see much of a difference between the school the degree of coarse or a different seeeing as though neither of the degrees are related to on another as for excelsior and charter oaks I believe the to be schools that would be accepted more by academia then company and dont quote me because I may wrong and not afraid to admit it if I am! I believe graduate schools will look to a degree
the is composed of prior coarses and clep as a degree from a person that is
really commited to learning and will do well in a graduate school enviroment because they have more disipline than the average b/m student . I believe bussinesse will have a problem with this type of degree because most companys adapt to the traditional way of doing things and are for lack of a better term to feble minded to accept the fact that a person of superior intellect has the ability to learn the same thing s as they do with out the aid of the teacher. I have also seen the schools that except the degreefrom excelsior schools like harvard and stanford and they usally dont make it a point to accept degree that they see as substandard. but that,s another story. as for your question yes I do think that a degree for m aiu will be mor e benefital in the workplace only because of the stigma that is attached to a degree composed entirely of piror classes form other university and test , But does this mean my degree to superior certainly not! in essence all dl degree are the same the you are expeted to do all the work your self with minmal to no help from a professor but agian I may be wrong , but I dont think I am ! If your looking for a affordable degree that
may help you to get into a good graduate school excelsior will do that , but you takre the chance of employer s not looking favorly at it ! if you are looking for a degree that does both , attend a school with a land campus and a established reputation. does this guareentee employeement at completetion? no given the attitude dl degrees get in general from some no ,but for example if I obtain a degree from harvard extention school it still will not be looked at a degree from harvard b/m but it is a still a degree from harvard notne the less ! see what I mean?

    P.S

I know I wlll probably get flamed for this post but I am not writing this to take away from anyone degree I believe everyone has worked as hard as me or hareder to obtain there degree and truely believe that no matter where you obtained it ( not counting degree mills oviously) but the preception of other bussinesses of our degrees . and I am no expert and only giving my opinon .I also thinnking about attending one tprogram charter oaks college to obtain my mathmatic degree so I definetely do not believe that the degree is substandard and that my be my i only way to get int o a top tier school .

    TUI was inexpensive

As I am retired military, I got a 40% discount on Touro's tuition so it was the cheapest option for me. I don't know if it has any extra reputation over Excelsior but I do think a program attached to a B&M will be better accepted by some who are otherwise leery of DL. It may be a justified but that is the way it is for some people.

If I had the option of getting 40% off then I would go with Touro or other similar university. But for those who are paying in full from their pockets what is the best choice ?

I think to a potential employer or university a DL degree will be a DL degree and will be treated same no matter if its from Touro, AIU (and other similar where you spent thousands of $ ) or Excelsior, COSC, TESC (which you did cheaply and saved your bucks in pocket )? agree ?

To reply to codekiller, Touro also accepts CLEP, so your comment that anyone who did courses which are not TERM/Semester based would not hold value. You can get a lot of credits at Touro by taking CLEP exams.

    Etech,

I have been misquoted I never said clep would hold credit. Iknow they will this is what i said:

    How is this statement saying

Did you read my whole post ?

The only thing I was talking about was the way bussiness may view the degree thats al academia looks favorably on clep test and there has been people admitted into harvard with them. Business's may not look so favorably on them because they are not traditional and that also included aiu. If you are going to flame dont misquote me. Unless this was intentional flame! Then let it be known privately not on the board.

this is not flame. just discussion. I have nothing against any of these intitutions. I am planning to pursue myself. So this is just discussion.
