I'm sitting this exam on Monday and I have not studied at all. It was a last minute thing. I'm pretty sure I could pass without any study, but I want an "A." Can any of you DANTES veterans point me to some key topics to study on the internet. I don't have any Health books.

    Thank you,
    Chris

    A few pointers

    1. Show up for the exam
    2. Drugs, smoking and alcohol are bad

    You're all set! :)

Seriously, that's about as tough as it gets. Good Luck!

    Regards,

    Tony

:D That sounds too easy but I'll take your word for it.

How long does it take to get DANTES results back? I took two over a month ago and I haven't received anything. My CLEP English with essay only took about 2 weeks.

I took two DANTES and had the results back within three weeks.

About how many questions are there on the exam?

About 100. I've taken 9 DANTES and the range has been 97-111 questions.

BTW, the Here's to Your Health was easy (no study - got an A).

Thanks, Chris. After asking here, I found:
    http://www.navstarr.navy.mil/navy_college/SF/sf508.htm

It may not be up to date; but it gives the number of questions as 101, and gives a formula for converting raw scores to scaled scores. If I'm using the fomula correctly, you need to get 76, 70, or 66 questions right for an A, B, or C respectively.

Rosie took the exam yesterday (along with "Fundamentals of Counseling"). She says there were some questions (classifying drugs given their chemical names, heart rates for exercise) that most people wouldn't know without study.

She found the Rudman's Passbook (National Learning Corporation) to be excellent preparation, anticipating many of the actual questions on the exam. (I know other people have expressed a low opinion of this series.)

Thanks for the link. It answers a lot of questions I've had concerning whether grades are awarded via standard deviation or what. I began wondering if they just pulled numbers out of the air and arbitrarily set grades to them.

Do you know of a similar link for CLEP? I'm looking for statistical information?

Rosie is right about those questions on the test. Had I not sat through a guzillion classes on drug abuse and other health related issues while in the military (keeping us pure and all) - I would not have that "easy A."

What are Rosie's comments on the Fundamentals of Counseling? How did she find Counseling: Theory and Practice by Rickey L. George and Therese S. Cristiani? And any other general comments. I might need another exam and this is one that I actually have an interest in.

    Thanks,
    Chris

"As of July 1, 2001, the passing score for all CLEP Examinations is 50. These exams are now delivered by computer. [...] Some exams for which we previously awarded letter grades will use pass/fail grading for now, until CLEP has sufficient data on the new computer-delivered exams to recommend minimum scores for B and A."

I'll answer your questions about "Fundamentals of Counseling" in that thread.

I am sitting for this exam on Monday, September 22, 2003 and have viewed the all the great tips everyone has posted recently regarding this exam. I have taken the advice of many and reviewed areas they have suggested such as Death, Aging, Drugs.

Is there anything else that the I should review in depth for this exam?

    Please advise.

Not really. About half of the answers will be quite obvious to you. Most adults will be familiar with most of the material (in my opinion). I can see where an 18 year old might not be familiar with rheumatoid arthritis, but (unfortunately) as adults we at least have basic knowledge of it. I had a question about a Pap Smear - I have heard my wife complain enough to figure out what this was all about! Some of the questions really were that obvious.

I do remember about 4 questions where the question described part of the male/female reproductive system and then asked you to pick the organ out of the possible answers.

As mentioned earlier, you will find questions/answers that contain/require more specific information, names, etc. than cursory knowledge. However, they are not in the majority. Although the pretest (on the Fact Sheet) does not have many questions on it - it is indicative of your performance on the actual exam.

She took the test on Sep. 20, and got the results today. I'll certainly show her your message. Thanks!

You may want to call DANTES. Of the ten or so that I have taken, I received the results to all but two within 2 weeks. For those two that did not come, I had to call and have them sent again. It appears they sent them to a military base somehow.

Congrats to Rosie on both of those exams!

Thanks CMT. I am going to give them until Monday. Then I am going to call them again. I tried calling on Tuesday and the representative stated they did not have my test, however my credit card showed a charge from them. I wonder who is telling the truth? My school counselor stated to me that it could just be waiting to be graded.

How long does a testing center have to forward the test to DSST/Chauncey? Does anyone know? The understanding I had is that they have to forward the test and paperwork within 24 hours.

    DANTES Test results

I received my score yesterday from DANTES. I also got a scaled 60 on the Here's To Your Health exam. For my university that is a passing score and they are processing my paperwork to graduate.

Thank you everyone for all the help.
