I'm bored, and I've been stalking these forums for quite a while. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any sites where I can just go and test out in my free time? Proctor U seems promising, but the only "school" I can find is Saylor, which only has a few. Are there any other places where someone can go take an exam online and get ACE credit? It doesn't have to be free. I just don't have the time or reliability in my schedule to go to a testing center and that whole process. I just want to, when I'm bored, go to a website and take a test and before I've finished my tea have college credit. FEMA sounds intriguing, too. Anyone else have any ideas? Straighterline seems interesting, too...

TECEP, CSU Global CBE, TEEX, and Tor College Credits (NCCRS). Online FEMA courses do not have ACE approval, so the number of colleges that will accept them is very limited. TECEPs do not have ACE approval and don't need it because they earn you residency credits from a regionally accredited school. CSU Global CBEs also do not have ACE approval, but even though CSU Global is regionally accredited, other schools might not accept their CBEs because they aren't treated as residency credits. TESU accepts them.

Yes! Of course there are limitations to ACE credit UNLESS you choose to enroll at a partner college. There is a new growing list of partner colleges that guarantee transfer (and are not limited to online options) called Alternative Credit Project. You have to run the classes you're considering through their site to be sure they are part of the project (not ALL Saylor or Straighterline are), but it's a way to "test in your free time" and know that what you're working on will transfer. If you live in Colorado, it's a goldmine. The Alternative Credit Project

I guess it doesn't have to be necessarily ACE. I'm new to this area, and it seemed that ACE would be the only option available. I have no interest in attending regular college, can't be bothered setting an appointment with the testing center, blah blah, but I'm attracted to the idea of taking a test online during my lunch break or a day off and walking away with something to show for my current obsession, if that makes sense. My situation is, I'm constantly learning and researching new things, in my spare time. I don't need a degree, because I've pretty much arrived at my future, as far as career goes, and I've been in this field for nearly twenty years. I make part time what most make in full time positions. And I don't even work the entire year! I think it'd just be neat to get some kind of recognition for the things I learn, in the event I do ever want a degree I wouldn't have to take classes over again that I already know about (flashbacks to boring high school classes come to mind). Thanks, guys for any input. I'm fairly new to this idea!

Quick add: It's honestly a shame this option wasn't available years ago. With the stuff I've picked up over the years, I'd probably have a doctorate's by now!

Why did you say it's a goldmine if I live in Colorado? I have family there, and that's definitely a possibility!

Hi, I was curious if you found a resource that helped you with your situation...and if you would mind sharing?
    Thanks!

  8. It has been available for a long time, at least CLEP, DSST, ECE and TECEP exams. The difference is they were once paper-based and now are computer-based.

When doing my undergrad 10+ years ago I used to go and take a DSST during my lunch hour, usually one every week or two. Another local college had easy access to CLEP exams and I would crank out 2 in a row. I had to drive 30 minutes to take ECE exams but not too bad.

I took my CLEPs in 2004/2005 when I was living in Fort Lauderdale. The testing center at Broward Community College was computerized. I had to take two busses to get there. Worth it.

Oops, I didn't see this question. It's been almost a year- so unlikely that Sony is still around....however, for those in Colorado, the entire public school college system is part of the Alternative Credit Project. Guaranteed transfer at EVERY 2 year community college, and because your state locks community college transfers into 4 year colleges, the transfer rolls forward.
You can use Saylor ($25/course) as well as Straighterline, and others found on the list: The Alternative Credit Project
