I am need to this site and looking for some information on Clep/Dante's exams. My job is willing to pay for me to go back to school for a business degree and i am looking to get some credits through clep exams. I picked up a intro to psychology REA study book and have been studying for a week now. Is this a good clep exam to begin with? I have 4-5 hours a day aside to study for these exams. So time is not a issue with my schedule. I was just curious how hard these exams are and how long does the average person study? I really appreciate any advice!!!
Welcome to the site. I took a lot of CLEPs and DSST exams (over 60 credits) and I found the REA and Comex books to be the best. Some exams took me a week of study while others were completed without any study. I looked at the miilitary passingg rates for the exams and if the passing rate was over 50%, I knew something about the subject, and got more then 5 right on the 10 question practice exam on the CollegeBoard website, I took the exam. Does that help answer your question?
Thanks for your help!! Have you taken psychology, business law, or principles of management? If so were they hard?
No, I have taken these: CLEP Analy and Interp Lit CLEP English w/essay CLEP English w/o essay CLEP General Math CLEP History and Social Science CLEP History I CLEP Humanities CLEP Sociology DANTES – HR Management DANTES Envir and Humanity DANTES Ethics DANTES Here’s to you Health DANTES Intro to Business DANTES Intro to Computing DANTES Intro to Criminal Justice DANTES Intro to Law Enforcement DANTES MIS DANTES Organizational Behav DANTES Tech Writing ECE Labor relations ECE Production/Operation Mgt ECE Research Methods in Psy
I appreciate all your help!!! I am looking to get my degree in business and eventually will need to take intro to business. I heard that clep was very hard. What is your input on that clep and what other clep exams did you find easy?
I've taken psychology and principles of management as well as many other tests. I mostly use the Instantcert flashcards.
I found most of the ones listed to be pretty easy. I studied for some but not for most. Intro to business was easy but I had already completed a BS in Business from an unaccreditied school (later became DETC accreditied).
FYI, there are a lot of free online resources out there that don't entail purchasing any study guides to pass. Many of the video series at Learner.org - Teacher Professional Development correspond to generic college courses, so they cover CLEP/DSST material well, and it doesn't cost a penny to watch them. I just used those along with Wikipedia to pass at least a few of my exams.
Thanks for all your help! I made my appointment today for the psychology CLEP. Earliest i could go is July 9th. I'm confident i am ready for the exam!! I know every definition in the REA book and scoring 70-75 on the practice exams. I just started studying for principles of marketing. That will be my next clep. Going to try and schedule 1 every 2-3 weeks.
question would you recommend learning from Saylor to prepare for the corresponding CLEP DSST and Excelsior exams? The courses are free and you can build an ePortfolio also some of their subjects offer credits through the National CCRS. What about the free online courses from Stanford,Carnegie mellon and MIT?Are they useable? Sorry if it feels like i hijacked the thread but the reason i ask is due to the large amount of free open courses available and the possibility of conflict on how information is presented.
Education Portal makes free video courses specifically for CLEP, DSST, and ECE. Excelsior exams are now called Uexcel ECEP. List of All Free Online College Courses & Video Lessons - Education Portal Excelsior and TESC are supposed to be working with Saylor to match the content of their courses with Excelsior exams and TECEPs.
lol thanks Sanontone your always on the ball but the links dont seem to work for me.. question how different are CLEPS, DSST, and excelsior on the way they approach a course for example Financial Accounting is a common exam between the three. Are all three similarly standardized or are there different emphasis's. The reason i ask is because i've seen many variations of the question which is harder/easier and if the tests were truly similar in their expectations then shouldn't the difficulty be the same.
