Hi - I have my BA.. Now I need some extra classes (30) in math for a job. Will the big 3 give me a transcript of these credits (via credit by exam, straighterline, etc) after I transfer them in? Do I need to be degree seeking?

It depends, undergraduate is yes; however, graduate degree is NO. For undergraduate some of the big Three requires you to earn at least 1 or 2 courses for the degree.

Undergraduate is what I am seeking. After two weeks of research I finally stumbled upon Excelsior's OneTranscript service... Looks like that might be the answer. Does that sound right?

I believe Excelsior and Thomas Edison still run a credit banking service that might work for you. Know also that CLEP, DSST, Straighterline, etc... can all be sent to the American Council on Education (ACE) and transcript-ed there for around $40. http://www2.acenet.edu/credit/?page=transcripts_faq CLEP and the rest also send out there own transcript to anyone you request so that may be an option.

What's the job? Teaching or something?

Teaching - exactly. And wow.. if the ACE transcription works out you just saved me about $300.00, I really appreciate you applying back

Before you do all that, make sure the job will see that as good enough. It's their opinion that matters, not ours.

If ACE is in fact usable for you, and if your pretty sharp at math you should pursue everything you can via ALEKS its completely self paced, only $20 month, and ACE accepts it. These courses are available:

    Intermediate Algebra
    Algebra
    College Algebra with Trigonometry
    PreCalculus
    Trigonometry
    Introduction to Statistics
    Business Statistics
    Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences

    http://www.aleks.com/about_aleks/course_products

ALEKS is unique. You sign up for your course, take an initial assessment at home no proctor, Pass that 25-30 question assessment with a 70% or better and your done...transcribe to ACE then move on to the next class. If you don't test out with 70% on the initial you can work through ALEKS online tutor to improve, or go over and trigger a new exam to re-test you. Math, for some, can be completed very quickly this way. Theoretically one could finish all of these within a month and only spend $20 plus whatever ACE costs these days.

Note that this will only produce a pass/fail grade so see if that matters...you also have to wait a day or two once you finish to give them time to send the score to ACE before you start another class (or open a second account).

BTW the CLEP "college math" is pretty basic and worth 6 credits this exam with the above would be 30 credits in college level math.

    Good Luck!

The six credit Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP is a glorified literacy test. If they'll take it then definitely give it a whirl.

So is this forum, at times. Steve, I quote the OP:

"Now I need some extra classes (30) in math, for a job"

Turns out the job is teaching. Now how is that Literature CLEP test gonna help this BA grad become a math teacher?
