I was just wondering if anyone took this? I've passed Sociology, History I, English, and Humanities, but was wondering how difficult Statistics is, since I've never taken a course in it...

    Thanks a bunch!

    You must mean DANTES!

You must mean DANTES--CLEP has no stats exam,
only College Algebra, Trig-Algebra, and Calculus.

This is a link to a .pdf file with a breakdown of the test's content areas, along with some sample questions. (Oh, and a few statistics about the test thrown in for good measure!)

I've taught Stats in two different MBA programs. (I'm halfway through one right now.) The test purports to measure one's knowledge of inferential statistics, which can be a little difficult. It is safe to say that a good working knowledge of the concepts behind probability, descriptive stats, inferential stats, and basic math would be in order.

FY01 DSST Volume/Pass Rate for Principles of Statistics

    This may be of interest:

In the Department of Defense in Fiscal Year 2001,
745 people took the test. 41 per cent attained the ACE recommended passing score of 48.

By comparision, Business Law II and Principles of Financial Accounting were only passed by 12 per cent of test takers.

Re: FY01 DSST Volume/Pass Rate for Principles of Statistics

Interesting, thank you for this info. Both "Business Law II" and "Financial Accounting" score a 4 out of a possible 5 in my Difficulty Index tables (estimates based on my experience of difficulty in achieving a "B" or better:- http://geocities.com/ba_in_4_weeks/examdifficultytables.html ).

I am just a little less than astonished though, that only 12% of those who sat these particular exams, passed.

Any more where that came from?

Wonder what percentage of those who passed were mature, motivated adults. No demographics, I suppose?

This is from a letter dated 1 Feb 02 from DANTES and signed by Leonord C. Lipp II, the manager of Exam Programs. The Subject is:
"CREDIT-BY-EXAMINATION VOLUME AND PASS RATES FOR FY01".

It gives figures for CLEP/DSST/Excelsior. I got it because I work as a counselor for the Navy. As a side issue, if you want a copy, respond to me offline at [email protected] and I will scan and send it to you. Phil Ternahan:)

The 9% pass rate for the American Government exam is simply amazing!

Thanks to gmohdez for providing these very useful links to the data, and thanks again to ternahan for bringing it to our attention in the first place.

Yes, quite astonishing. Interesting to compare the relative spread of passes by exam type (particularly comparing ECE with CLEP (subject exams)and DANTES).

9%!?!?! Clearly, people need to take a bit more interest in how their government functions, even if they have no particular degree of faith in it.

A 9% pass rate for American Government CLEP? Are you guys sure that's correct? I wouldn't call the exam super-easy, but if you read a newspaper every day, it's not that tough.

    Dear blessedrealm--

Just wondering--have you decided yet on how, or what, to study and prepare for the DANTES stats exam?
