So Confused....help?

Hi everyone. I am planning on enrolling in the Polysomnography certificate program (Thomas Edison State College: Polysomnography) at Thomas Edison State College. I am then planning on testing out (clep) of the general education requirements for the AAS degree in Polysomnography and doing FEMA classes for the free electives. Is this permissible? Can I enroll and finish the certificate program and then apply those credits towards the AAS degree and test out of the rest of the required classes? Also, what CLEPs do I need to take to meet the general education requirements for an AAS degree?

Always check with the school before registering, but the CLEP College Composition (6 credit recommendation) exam should take care of English Comp, and the Humanities exam (also 6 credits) should take care of the Humanities requirement, with the additional benefit of 3 more credits that can be applied to free electives.

As for math & science, I stink at both, so I did those residentially; hopefully someone else will chime in for those.

 

Aleks Intermediate Algebra or College Algebra is acceptable at TESC as is the DSST and CLEP College algebra.

Straighterline will likely (by far) be the quickest and cheapest route on A&P, see if TESC needs it with a lab...they might not. Straighterline also has the College Algebra.

There are several CLEP/DSST for the social science. Psychology or Sociology should fit nicely.

I can;t imagine they would care about the order...but they might. I would call them up and ask.

I want to say Analyzing and Interpreting Lit is a humanities over there. go to the tesc website and run a search for "clep" and another for "dantes" and you should find the answeres.

 

If so, I would recommend that as opposed to the Humanities exam. I took and passed both, but Analyzing and Interpreting Literature was much easier than Humanities, and IIRC has a better overall pass rate.

Thats how its listed....and good for 6 credits. This is considered a pretty easy exam.

 

It is...I think I used both for open electives, but I would take Analyzing & Interpreting if I only had to take one.

 

Your plan will work, I'm sure that's exactly what they had in mind when putting together that degree. The only thing you won't be able to use CLEP for is A&P. Good news, you don't need labs, so that will keep the cost down. The best candidate for A&P at TESC without labs is straighterline. Totally self paced and accepted at TESC - plus no bio or chem prereqs.

An alternative for Anatomy and Physiology is this ECE exam, 120 questions over 3 clock hours for six semester hours. Your results would receive a letter grade from the source, Excelsior College, but like any incoming outside credit would be accepted without impacting your GPA there by Thomas Edison.
