Can you take it with essay? I took it without and it was accpeted by one school bu not another so I had to retake it with essay. Tip - all I remember was to know commonly conused words (to, too, two and there, heir, they're) and if you do the essay one, practice wriing a 5 paragraph essay. Have someone give you random topics like favorite vacation, best memory, most important invention of the 20th century (that was my essay topic), etc.

Clovis told me they do not need the essay, so there is no real point in me in me doing it. I want to get it done as fast as possible so I can get it to them before the fall semester, they are going to take it as Comp 1 and Comp 2 so it will be a weight off my shoulders. Thanks for the pointers.

I second Randell's advice. I am not sure how 4 year colleges interpret your classes--for example, you get credit from Clovis for the class, but when you transfer, would the school take the scores according to *their* clep policy or just give you credit?

    Sounds like its the former.

BTW, If you take it a day earlier, you have a better chance of getting it back MUCH sooner. I'm speaking from experience with this exam!

oh, well it may not matter....i think i read the calendar wrong.....

anyway this would be for if you were taking the essay, which, as stated above, is a pretty good idea :)

and its not that bad...once you finish the exam, the last screen gives you the topic and starts the timer. you then can type in the essay and submit. remember that they're not going to ask you anything that requires a specific amt of knowledge/research since you cannot consult anything. they will ask about a simple concept or theory and ask that you take a position on it.

for example: "Some people say that you only get one true love. Do you agree? "

    or

"It has been proposed that the work week be shortened to 4 days. Is this a good idea?"

i took the test cold last month, and opted for the essay.

    whatever you decide, good luck!

I got cold feet and felt like I needed more study time, so I am going to take Anz Lit first to get my nerve up. I want to use Instant Cert another week or so, then go for it with the essay.

I took both English AP exams, both with essay. My experience is that the APs are lightyears more difficult than the comparable CLEPs, but of course I wouldn't know specifically for this one.

I'd say that since you already have tons of reading experience and have taken tons of courses from a few different schools already, then you should be just fine. The English Comp AP test was similar to the types of reading comprehension tests that I had taken my entire life and that I suspect most high school graduates are already intimately familiar with.

The best advice I can give you is to prepare well but not to worry to much about it at all. Overall, I don't think most CLEPs are that difficult. Even if you don't know the answer to half the questions, the half you get right plus just a couple of lucky guesses could propel your score to WELL above passing.

You mentioned that you were joining InstantCert? Go to their forum section and look up the specific exam feedback thread. You can also post this same question in the General thread as well. That site has many more test takers than this one.
