O.k. This is not exactly an exam for credit question, but I am curious how close the PowerPrep practice tests are, to the actual GRE General test. For instance, on the Quantitative and Verbal, I got a 650 and 560, respectively (with my kids bouncing around the house, no less). Can I expect the same range from the actual test? Or is the actual test much harder?

I found them to be quite similar when I took the general GRE about 2 1/2 years ago.

Wow! They are VERY similar. I did nothing in the way of preparation, except take the practice test one time...I got 660 on the Verbal, and 610 on the Quantitative. I think if I would have reviewed some of the basic math formulas, I could easily have gotten in the 750-800 range. Oh well...if I decide to get in a Ph.D. program later, I will retake it. This is plenty high for what I need!

That's a great relief to me. I plan on going to grad school someday, and naturally, a good GRE score would make it easier for me to get in. Then again, doing well on a test that isn't that hard in the first place isn't saying much, now is it?

Some graduate schools give you the option to take the GRE or the MAT. In my case, I took the MAT because it was inexpensive and took approximately 2 hours. However, it was a very curious exam and not for everyone.

In regards to your second statement, I don't believe these type of graduate entrance exams say much anyway. It is more of a hoop jumping process for admission.

Overall, I think Kaplan has some great products and offerings. Have you purchased the Kaplan GRE review book?

I have the GRE to look forward to in my future as well. I haven't decided yet when to get serious about it. I've been looking at the Princeton book and liking it so far it seems to offer some practical tips.

I found the Princeton Review's Cracking the GR to be very helpful. There is a site called 4Tests.com that has a shortened GRE practice exam, too.

    Peace,

    Matt
