    Hi,

Anybody suggest me, how to prepare for the CLEP American Government exam?

Visit the CollegeBoard web site and read their suggestions on preparing for CLEP examinations. Download the study guide for American Government.

I have not taken the American Govt exam but have used Instantcert.com for other exams and I highly recommend it. They also have a forum with a section called Specific Exam Feedback that is awsome.

My general process (for any exam):
    1. Get the study guide. Most are free but some (CLEP) charge you. Even if they are selling the guide you can usually find the exam content for free.
    2. Find a text book that fits the exam material (the study guide will tell you what's on the exam). This is key. A good book makes the exam easy. A bad book and you won't pass.
    3. Pick up the REA guide for the exam. Other companies make study guides but I've found REA to be the best.
    4. Consider getting a video by Standard Deviants or The Teaching Company
    5. Take 10 minutes and plan how you will study. Since the text book most likely is not an exact match you will most likely skim certain areas.
    6. Take a practice test and make sure you will pass with quite a safety margin

On thing to note is that you can often find the REA guide and textbooks at your library. You can also often find videos, but they are often scratched.

Some people will recommend just using InstantCert. I think this is a fantastic tool but it won't teach you the material by itself. It just helps make sure you pass the exam. I believe educations is about learning, not just about the piece of paper you hang on your wall.
