    Hi,

I am planning on taking a literature CLEP exam in August. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on which is easier - English or American? Thanks for your help! :)

Hmmm. I'm guessing that it depends on whether you're more familiar with British or American literature.

I passed both of these exams a few months ago. I'd say that the English Literature exam covers a broader range of material over a longer time span, and the American Literature covers less authors and works, but asks deeper questions. I feel that the English Literature was the easier exam, but American was easier to study for because I had less material to cover.

To study, I read the Norton Anthologies of American and English Literature as quickly as possible over a two-week period for each exam, and watched these free videos for American Lit: http://www.learner.org/resources/series164.html?pop=yes&pid=1739 I scored a 66 on the American Literature, and a 74 on the English Literature. I took the CLEP Humanities exam a week later and scored a 69 with no additional study; what I learned from the anthologies sufficed.

    Good luck!
