    Hi,

I'm relatively new to taking CLEP/DANTES tests. I took a CLEP test once a few years ago and downloaded a study guide that didn't seem to be useful at all. In fact, I don't remember seeing any of the questions on the test.

I was wondering what people on this forum would suggest to use to study for a CLEP or DANTES exam?

    thanks

I used InstantCert.com's flashcards for several CLEP's and DSST's. I also bought a few study guides from "Pass Your Class" that were ok, and lastly I studied with some textbooks from related college courses. Personally, I like InstantCert the most, and I used their resources more than any other.

Which tests are you looking to take?

Thanks for the advice, Steve..I appreciate it.

Over the years, I have used places like InstantCert for computer certification tests such as Novell, Cisco, Microsoft etc...and for the most part they have been very good. Actually, I was hoping someone would tell me there was something similar to this for CLEP because I like to study this way.

Right now, I need about 10 classes left to graduate, most of which are liberal arts electives. I was thinking about taking a basic Literature CLEP exam because I read in this forum that several people thought it was one of the easiest to pass. I don't particularly care what I take as long as I can get the credits I need....any suggestions?

    thanks

  4. Some suggested exams:

CLEP - Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (6 credits)
DSST - Here's to your Health (3 credits)

If you can get liberal arts credit for some of the business courses, and if you haven't taken them, the CLEP Principles of Management and Principles of Marketing courses aren't too difficult for most. Same for the DSST Principles of Supervision (which is very similar to the CLEP Mgt exam)

Western Civilization I and II are fun if you're a history buff.

Also look at the CLEP or DSST computing exams.

You can also back-to-back the DSST Criminal Justice and Intro to Law Enforcement exams as there is a lot of similar material and thinking between them.

If you have Spanish, French or German language skills, the CLEP language exams yield either 6 or 12 credits.

If you're fairly well versed in arts, CLEP Humanities isn't too hard and yields 6 credits. This one seems to be polarizing for people - either they do well with little study or find it hard even with a lot of studying.

If you don't have the CLEP Official Study Guide and are planning to take more than one CLEP for your liberal arts credit make sure you get it as it has some sample questions - this might be helpful to narrow down which exams look interesting and would be doable by you.

    Good luck!

    Clep prep resources

Instantcert flashcards are good, and the Specific Exam feedback is even better (although only available to paid subscribers). In the latter, you can read detailed posts about each exam with recommended study resources. Sometimes people even post 20-30 page study guides they've created!

I'd recommend you give Instantcert at try. Be sure to log in to the discussion board and if you don't see a forum called Specific Exam feedback listed, email Instantcert and they'll fix it. (That happened to me -- I missed out on that forum for about a month because I didn't even know it existed. I thought the general discussion forum was it!)

If you use code 85722, you'll get a discount off your first month's subscription.

I'm another InstantCert fan. My students have passed all of their exams since we joined but we also supplement with texts recommended on the IC forum. REA is a favorite source.

I second the recommendation for the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam since it is an easier exam and gives you 6 credits. I also like the REA guides and supplement them with the SpeedyPrep website. I like that the website tracked my progress and told me when I was ready for exams. Also the official Collegeboard guide is good to gauge where you stand. Good luck!

I think the key phrase here is "a few years ago." I see exams and related study guides being updated more frequently in times past. I was surprised when doing some recent searches for CLEP materials on Amazon-- REA had been updating their materials more frequently than I had realized.
