This was one of the most difficult exams for me so far. I now know for sure that I can cross a career in law off the list of what I might want to do when I grow up. I took the CLEP Intro. to Business Law the same day, and although there was some overlap, there wasn't nearly as much as I was hoping for. I squeaked by with a 48, my lowest score on any exam so far, but a 48 is the cut off score for a 'B' at Excelsior, so I am very pleased with that. All I really did was skim the Barron's Business Law book, and the IC flashcards for CLEP Intro. to Bus. Law. I only studied for two days (about 15 hours altogether), so I definitely recommend spending more time on it than I did! I'm just glad this one's over. You need to know commercial paper really well!

Well, it's been a minute since I sat this exam, so I don't remember much. Plus, I think my brain just naturally wants to reject complicated legal jargon, with all its rules and then all the exceptions to those rules....made it difficult for me. CLEP Intro. to Business Law is definitely an entry-level exam, you can probably pass it without too much study if you are a big fan of courtroom and police dramas, legal novels of the John Grisham variety, etc. DSST Business Law II, on the other hand, goes in to great detail, such as wanting to know the exact difference between a check, promissory note, IOU, etc., and won't ask you straight out either. They will give you a scenario where you then have to figure out which principle or document applies. So, I guess CLEP Intro. to Business Law is just the surface knowledge and basic principles, and DSST Business Law II is deeper, applied knowledge, and rightly so, since the CLEP is lower level credit and the DSST is upper level.

    Hope that helps a bit!

scenarios are the key to these exams.

I feel the scenarios are the key to the exams. If you can apply the rules to different stories, you will pass the exams. Maybe the DANTES Personal Finance overlaps Buisness II dantes exam.

Passed a few days ago with a 55, under time pressure so I blew through 93 questions in an hour. I wanted to move on to other things or I would have studied another two weeks (on top of the prior four) to get a better score.

Definitely study commercial paper, holder in due course, bankruptcies. I used the big, green Law for Business text and an older version of the Barron's book, plus some companion website quizzes for other texts. At one point I considered buying the Rudman study guide book, and I might have if I were going to take more time to study.

While watching legal shows gets you some foundational background and preps you for the mindset of the material, I wouldn't rely too much on that.

There was some nice overlap with the CLEP Intro Business Law material. This saved me on a couple occasions during the BL II exam-- whenever I started feeling overwhelmed, up would pop a more basic overlap Intro BL question. Definitely take Intro BL first if possible, and the higher you score on Intro BL the easier BL II will be. (I don't know if I would or even could attempt both on the same day. I would imagine I would barely have passed BL II if I had tried that.)
