I'm taking this exam soon. Anyone have any study tips or info on this exam? I already have the REA study guide.

The REA Study Guide is the book to have.

On top of that, an older edition of one of the popular textbooks would be helpful. DON'T PAY FOR A NEW EDITION! Search for the older, and MUCH CHEAPER, editions from the same author(s).

When I buy used books, I buy used from Amazon.com and Half.com. Also, I search for the best price using the following:

    www.campusbooks.com
    www.addall.com
    www.allbookstores.com

I have also picked up older edition, used textbooks at college bookstores for $1-$5 (some even new!) I have bought countless older edition textbooks at Goodwill for $.70 for paperback and $1.00 for hardback. I am a bit on the odd side, though; I read textbooks like some people read novels or magazines.

I just finished taking this exam. I got a 70, needed a 50 to pass.

I primarily used the REA book to study. I did also review the cards over at InstaCert and although they did help, they only provided the answers to maybe 2 or 3 questions that weren't covered in the REA guide.

Not a super hard exam but I did study for 2 weeks to get ready for it.

I think the REA guide is really the only thing you need.

West Civ I was my favorite exams.

I didnt even study for it and recieved a 61. Maybe I should retake it again and get a higher score studying for it .

You obviously enjoy history and have had some exposure to the topic before. I would not recommend not studying for this exam to everyone. This exam covers 4000 years and does require some familiarity with various civilizations.

    I wouldn't retake it if I were you. I think a 61 would be considered an A.

I used and recommend the BRIEF edition of a good textbook (older ed).

Marvin Perry, "Western Civilization: A Brief History, Volume I: To 1789"
is around 250 larger print pages - very readable. And if you hunt up the publisher's textbook web site, you can use the multiple choice quizes online to test your learning and boot your confidence before sitting the exam! It's education at a bargain in price and cost of time.

I'm not a history person, and worry about history tests. Is Western Civ II easier than Western Civ I? I know it's less years, but that means it's more specific, so I might like it less. I was hoping I could study intensely for a week or so (40 hours) and go take it and pass. What do you think? I've had history classes in the past and I'd get B's or so, but that was a long time ago, and I was always bad at remembering dates and names and so on. These are both harder than History of the US I? I want to start with whatever it easiest. Thanks.
