I'm looking for advice on how to prep my daughter to take the DANTES Intro to Computers exam. I have access to the Peterson's practice tests; and she knows how to use an office suite and graphics.

I don't want to pay the money for InstaCert - I test drove it last month and while it may be good for some people, my daughter prefers to read a book on a subject.

    Thanks much - good night!

I remember I took the DANTES Management Information System without studying. So, I don't think the Introduction to Computing is hard. If she has been using computer about 10 years...then she should be good to go. If you want her to be sure passing the exam. Then, have her complete the CompTIA A+ Video Lectures. It is about 50 hours, but she can turn around taking the Management Information Systems and CLEP Information System and Computing Application.

At the time, my husband never even used email or a word processor... but used one of the Dummies books to prepare for this exam and passed with a mid-50's score. I use a computer all the time, so took it cold but hardly passed with only a 52  I recall there being some questions that were much deeper than I anticipated, so I would hesitate to suggest a casual user may not need to study. (I do know many teens are much more skilled in the area of computers than someone in my <cough> age range)

The best advice is to go back over to Instantcert and review the "specific exam feedback" folder for that exam. That's where you'll find the best info, you don't need to use their flash cards, and it is totally free. You should be able to print it off, and give it to your daughter to read and use as a "check list" for studying.

    Jennifer,

How do I access the specific exam folder? Do I need to renew my membership?

No, not at all. You do have to sign in, but you don't have to pay anything.

To confirm that your signed in, look in the upper right corner- it's laid out exactly like this forum, it will have a "welcome" with your member name if you are signed in.

Then, go to the main forum folders page, and it is the last folder on the list. Inside the folder, each exam will have a dedicated thread. Enjoy :)

    Tekman,

FYI - the download links are no longer working.
