According to a previous post by Lawrie Miller the American Government CLEP had a difficulty rating of 2 (slight revision required after studying and practise test). Good luck with the test.

Tips? sorry, don't know any for this. However, I know some info I can share with you.

In that examination you will have to be able to demonstrate one or more of the following abilities in the approximate proportions indicated:

Knowledge of American government and politics (about 55–60% of the exam)
Understanding of typical patterns of political processes and behavior (including the components of the behavioral situation of a political actor), the principles used to explain or justify various governmental structures and procedures (about 30–35% of the exam)
Analysis and interpretation of simple data that are relevant to American government and politics (10–15% of the exam)

That's all I can share. Good luck

I had no problem whatsoever with it, but I'm a political junkie (I love politics but hate politicians).

If you read the daily newspaper (not just the comics & sports sections), you probably won't have too much trouble with it.

I read John Q. Wilson's American Government in preparation for the CLEP. I got a B; it seemed like I ran into a bunch of questions along the lines of "What were the three main effects of the Hayden-Westmore decision of 1832*?" and I simply hadn't encountered that in my studies.

    Good luck with the test,
    Mark

*There is no such decision and it wasn't on the test, but there may well have been for as ill-prepared I was for the significant court cases.

If you paid attention in HS Civics classes and brush up with some supplimentary study materials (read a study guide and take a practice test or two) IMO it's not that difficult, I took it last year.
