  1. today i took the sociology clep. I heard from many people that it was very easy and minimal studying would be required to pass. well I PASSED! but is wasn't very easy, i seems i studied the wrong things and they whole time all i could thing about is that i am going to fail because all of these questions were unfamiliar to me, and on top of that i sat in the same seat where is failed another clep and i was convinced that it was an unlucky seat. But i guess not, i scored a 54, 50 is passing. After taking the test I am just happy that i passed. I would leave examples of what is on the test but honestly I was very unprepared and most things i got right were lucky guesses.

Don't worry; that's statistically improbable, so you earned it whether you think so or not. :)

I plan to CLEP some classes (if I can ever get confirmation from the University on which tests are acceptable for my program).

I definitely want to make sure that I have the correct testing materials, but I imagine that this is not always a sure bet since there are a number of companies who are not affiliated with the test makers, but are offering examination guides.

The nature of these exams is that they test material taught in a variety of courses with the same name (or near name). For that reason, one is not expected to know everything on the test. In fact, it's rare that someone would know all of the material on one of these exams.

That said, for the CLEP exams, the best information about what is on the test comes from the writers of the test; the College Board. (my opinion not based on any factual data, just experience)

While not sufficient preparation by itself, the CLEP Official Study Guide from the College Board (ISBN 0874477719) is the logical place to begin. A worthy $15-25 addition to any testers library.

Peterson's DSST The Official Test Preparation Guide (ISBN 0768906091) gets the DANTES vote from me. It doesn't cover every test!

RE: the Sociology exams -- Standard Deviants video series Sociology 2VHS Set (ISBN 1-58198-018-3) worked for me very well with the tested material as well as review for a couple in-the-seat classes I took.
