Hello board. Today I took Clep Business Law exam (passed with ease) and wanted to share on how I went about preparing for this test for anyone who may be thinking on taking this test.

Before taking this exam I had sat for American Government and noticed that some of the subjects overlapped (History of American Law, the Constitution, Federal and State form of Government etc) and so I decided to prep for BL next.

1- I used a small book, REA The Essentials of Business Law I (picked it up from amazon). This little book was only 111 pages in total and does an excellent job and laying down the language without the extra fluff. Also, the author has a sense of human which helps one remember the material, this book can be completed in a day by some (took me a lil longer).

2- Then I decided to order the Standard Deviants video, Business Law which basically filled in what was left out from the Essentials book.

3- Being that I like to master the subject matter of what I study, I went ahead and picked up the Barron’s Business Law book and read the relevant chapters and made sure that I new contracts in and out, by the way……………..this exam was about 70% + just on contracts alone!

4- During my downtime I would just go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page and just read up on any subject that I had a questions on.

I felt that this exam can be aced just using either

    1, 2 & 4 or just

    3.

Questions asked about the essential elements of a contract
A-Mutual agreement, Consideration, Legality of subject matter and Mental capacity of parties
B-describe and be able to recognize when a contract us bilateral or unilateral
    C-The statute of fraud,
    D-Parole Evidence rule,
    E-Express and Implied contracts,
    F-Quasi-Contracts, Promissory Estoppel, undue-influnce
G-Circumstances where an individual can render a contract void (minor, mentally unstable person, someone under the influence of drugs, alcohol)
H-States of contracts i.e. Void, Voidable and unenforceable
I- Defenses for breach of contracts (duress, undue influence etc)

You will also need to know the difference between civil and common law, as far as torts the elements of negligence and strict liability etc. Overall I really enjoyed studying for this exam now on to the next………

    I passed the exam too

Hey I passed the exam as well ....

I understood well about the contracts ..However , I felt broken hearted about principles of marketing ....

I felt the questions for priniciple of marketing to be ambigious ...

    thanks twicehalflife,

that was helpful. I've been toying around with the idea of BL 1

have you thought about doing the DANTES business law 2 for 3 credits of UPPER level credit?

it sounds like you could pass with just a little more study. Since you enjoyed BL 1 you'd probably like BL2 also

    Hey James,

I think you should go for the bl1! I would suggest you get the standard deviants video for this one and the essentials bl book just to lay down the foundation.

i'm actually going to start studying for the bl2 exam, only thing that was holding me back is the fact that there are more clep testing centers around my area then those administering dantes exams but being that i already enjoy the subject and that the barrons book also covers bl2, im going to do it and report back once i pass it.
