    Adoncia,

I think you have more than enough study material to pass this exam.

As Randell1234 said, the REA book alone contains everything you need to know. Instantcert was right on the money too for this exam.

    1) Know and understand the major theories/perspectives.
    2) Know the key names associated with each of the above.
    3) Know and understand the terminology.

That should be enough for a good passing score.

Let us know how you do.

    Good luck,
    Beholdweb

    STUDY OUTLINE SHEET

In the chicagoland area , we have borders and barnes / nobles book stores ....

In their eucation /study area ; they have these helpful 2 page subject study outline sheets for every subject like psychology , sociology and anthropology etc......

They are study aides for college students ....I used them and at the same time using the CLEP books / Sociology for fun guides...

The study outline sheets give a breakdown of the subject area in Sociology .....So you study from general to specific ; it becomes easier to memorize for me ......

    Re: I passed

Is Instacert enough to pass this one? How about Psychology (CLEP)?

    Re: Re: I passed

    Hi LiveFromHouston,

Instantcert is excellent review for the Sociology CLEP. I read REA and Passyourclass as well...but that is because I like to get an overview of the entire subject before I start doing Instantcert. REA is helpful because it provides you with practise exams (harder than the actual CLEPs).

Instantcert, however, contains all the same information you will find in the REA and Passyourclass guides.

So it is up to you whether to use JUST Instantcert or not, and it really depends on how you prefer to study.

    Hope that helps,

    Thanks Beholdweb and LivefromHouston,
Beholdweb your advice was very useful. Thanks a lot. I want to take the Introductory Psychology next weekend hopefully.
Have you taken it? Please do share tips and advice. I am planning to use REA,a psychology book by Nigel.C.Benson and Instacert...and of course the official guide.
LivefromHouston I don't think the instacert would be sufficient as particularly for this exam their study guide was very short and did not cover some topics.
I think REA coupled with Instacert is more than enough.
    Thanks a lot once again,
    Adoncia.

    Adoncia,

I haven't taken this exam yet (it's on my list). But if you need extra study material (free), check out: SparkNotes: Psychology

My plan is to study for the Intro to Psych exam exactly the same way I studied for the Sociology exam.

I too think that REA and Instancert would be a good combination to use for this exam.

Good luck and keep us updated,

LivefromHouston Beholdweb is right, there were only some topics not covered by Instacert.I have never studies sociology before so i needed something extra apart from instacert.
Also the practice exams in REA helped.
    Good luck

It's funny how subjective everything is with regards to these exams: Difficulty, what to study, which books are best etc.

I felt that Instantcert boiled everything down very nicely for the Sociology exam.

Having said that, I also used REA, so it may be that using Instantcert alone would not provide enough depth of understanding. However, it certainly contains all the info you would need to pass...and since Sociology is pass/fail, that's all you need really.

If anything, I overstudied for this exam...it was my very first exam. I ended up with a 76 though, and even though it is pass/fail, it felt good to score high on my very first exam. It was a real confidence booster.

Yes, I enjoyed reading the Sparknotes Psychology sections.

Another site that has some good study material is:

    PinkMonkey.com

I used them for American Government, and I will be looking over their info on Statistics and Economics eventually too.

    Check it out!

    CLEP exams

Personally, I find actually reading a used textbook designed for the subject of the CLEP is always good preparation for the CLEP tests. No cramming, and I actually still know something about the subject long after sitting the CLEP. REA guides are nice for the practice tests, but just using REA and Insta-Cert is like just reading the Cliff Notes...yeah, you might pass the test, and sure lots of B&M students do equivalently little studying, but you miss really making friends with the subject at hand.
