    Hello Everyone...

I have made a few posts here in the past .

As some people may know it ; Nov 12 and Dec 10 of this year are the GRE subject exams ....

I have some few college undergraduate credits behind me ......

I will probably utilize these credits to transfer into schools like Excelsior , Thomas Edison or Charter Oak by the end of this year ...

Everyone has different goals and agendas ....

Taking the Gre subject exams can be used on attaining 30 credit hours which is alot of money saved .....

For the gre subject science courses like Biology and physics ....

one must have labs or have taken some type of lab work at a community college or university.....

I have done those things ....

I have made a plan to take an exam where i have stronger affinity to the subject area....

I enjoy reading topics on science especially biology and other life science ...or ecology...

I like to watch animal planet on cable or some other science presentation on discover chanel ..I like to go fisihing , hiking and look at the outdoors....

I will plan to take the GRE in Biology in Nov 12 and possibly take the Literature in English in Dec 10 ......

Otherwise ; I wished they had the history gre subject exam which would be a piece of cake for me ....

For the literature in english ; i can utilize this for english as a second major ....

Furthermore , I will take the Natural Science Clep exam .......

Taking this exam will measure my knowledge for the sciences ...I have studied for this exam in the last month...

Afterwards I will take the Biology CLEP exam ; I will take this exam and see the outcome of my study and review for the

    Biology in GRE .......

I, for one, feel the national language of the United States should be changed to Semaphore :)

Study Strategy for the Biology GRE

Yes, I have researched several studying methods that can add efficiency and best long term results for exams....

I believe intellectual abilities have a function with the emotional state of mind ........

Emotions provide the drive to efficent learning and growth development for better cognitive skills......

I need positive motivation and interest in the subject area for my exam....

I think of animal planet , wild kingdom, marty stouffer nature shows, discovery channel , the zoo , my trip to south america , galapagos islands, the pond by my workplace , fishing trips, and even the weather....

I envision the different animals and plants that compete for survival as much as humans themselves...

Biology is the study of living organisms and the living environment....

What makes this world tick ?

I consider myself very lucky not to have an essay questions or one of those questions where you must provide in short essay format the reason for your multiple choice answer.... or true and false options with essays... Life would be harder without multiple choices...It gives you options and not unanswered questions....

    1) I bought flash cards .... There are many Biology flash cards available at a Barnes & Noble or at a Borders.... It is better to buy flash cards than make ones yourself ... I will give you one reason ... Making my own flash cards gives me writer's cramp and it wastes alot of studying time.......

    2) Organize a schedule for my studying activity ......

    3) 2 study methods I find interesting ...

    SQ3R
    http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newISS_02.htm

    SURVEY QUESTION READ RECALL REVIEW

This method of study emphasizes linear learning .....You write down the different concepts and answer the 5 W questions and 1 H question..... Who, what , where, when ,why , and HOW

You write an outline format and basically recite the questions and answers out loud with repetition......

You survey the chapter or look through the paragraphs .....Read the last summary and connect with the chapter introduction......

another method is mind mapping ....

    http://www.jcu.edu.au/studying/services/studyskills/mindmap/howto.html

    http://www.peterussell.com/mindmaps/mindmap.html

    what is mind mapping ?

you basically chunk different branches of ideas together ....

you bridge together the different ideas or concepts from visual imprinting...

or you can look at more links at google....

Now the big question .....How do I use these tools for maximum efficency ?

Everyone will have different perceptions in learning .... I will tell you my feelings of comfort for better memory ......

    A) I will use the FLASH CARDS first ....and SURVEY THE CHAPTER OF MY GRE BIOLOGY STUDY MANUAL ......

I am incorporating 2 different learning techniques in one way using the left and right side of my brain to make it more interesting .....

Since there are a million kazillion little cards; it will be interesting trying to find the right vocabulary for the right concept ....Once I find the right words for the concept ...I will bridge the different flash cards that relate together in a concept ...

For instance ; I want to make a mind map of the biology concept of the Cell ...

I will try to look for the flash card : mitochondria , nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, vaucole, and bridge it to the flash card "the Cell" ....

Its like mix and matching game ....

Do the same for the 5 kingdoms ? Animal , Plant, Monera . etc

Now look for a flash card that relates with the animal kingdoms?

see what cards you have at your disposal that you can use to mix and match for the concept ......

Its like putting a giant puzzle together .....

Afterwards you have finshed playing your puzzle game; do the SQ3R method in the end ......

The SQ3R method will make you focus the concept in detail ......It will take some time writing this down on paper ....

So if you don't want writer's cramp ; type it on a computer or use your Voice Operated Software Word Document......

It will save you some time ...Writing is only good for main concepts ....

If you are artistic ; make a sketch or drawing of the different concepts using the mind mapping technique .....

If anyone has a unique technique ; I welcome for more responses .....

I have completed the GRE Biology

I have completed the GRE Biology......

I can say the exam bases itself on multiple choices questions in the beginning .... 2nd part had matching questions ....3rd part were multiple questions on labratory results and hypothesis ...

You need to understand how to read and interpet lab data using graphs or charts .....

I will recieve my results in 6 weeks ...

I have felt I have done a good job and at least answered 130 or 150 questions correctly from the 200 multiple choice questions . : ) : )

I had studied for this exam for at least 4 months ....

Every 30-40 minutes 5 times a day .... I would review the different topics of Biology .....

I had gone to the museum a few weeks prior the exam ....

There were many questions ranging from Molecular Genetics, Ecology , Cell Biology .....

I will post a my own Biology Study Guide using the SQ3R method .....

I will do it for free so all of you who have so much obligations with family and work can utilize it ......

You can use it for CLEP Biology or GRE Biology and the CLEP Natural Science exam ....
