Just got back from my trip to Geneva where yesterday I took the two CLEP exams at Webster University as follows...

    -Principles of Management: 71
Not much problem with this one, not only because I did study Barron's fine book on the subject, but because there are many overlapping areas with other subjects I have tested before (Organizational Behaviour, MIS, Psychology, etc.)

    -College Algebra: 62
I felt very relieved with this one because, although I did study and did hundreds of exercices as preparation, I just wasn't very convinced of my results after taking the CLEP practice test, not so much because of lack of ability but of speed. As a matter of fact I had to leave at lest 8-10 questions unanswered in yesterday's test for lack of time/speed.
I have to rate this exam as medium-difficult. Of course, it all depends on your level.

Geneva: Lovely city! Some data: Airport to Webster University taxi: 30 CHF, Webster University (Gethod-Bellevue Train St) to Geneva Central (Corvatin) train St.: 3 CHF, Geneva train St to airport: 3 CHF, Packet of Chips: 3 CHF Admiral Hotel: 129 CHF, Caesar's Salad and bottle of water at MacDonalds 12 CHF.
    (CHF: Swiss Francs)

So if Excelsior reconfirms, all that is left for my Asscociates in Business is: 1) English Composition 2) Information Literacy.
I plan to dedicate full time to these during the coming days-weeks as soon as I decide what correspondence course to take to do it, which I'm in process of doing right now.

I will post a web page with comments on all my Dantes/Clep exams once I finish, including books used, etc.

    Thanks for the support.

Will, just for the sake of discussion. Why don´t you do your tests here in the Netherlands? We also have Webter University, and my family come to visit me from Madrid for as low as € 130 round trip, flying KLM (one the best airlines of the world in my opinion). Or, another idea, why don´t you take a week long vacation to the US and do 10- 20 of them? Beat Lawrie Miller´s record and get your degree in a week (just kidding). This could be probably much cheaper than to do frequent, short trips to Switzerland, a country that is quite expensive. Only in NYC there must be dozens of proctoring sites. Thus you could even practice for your English composition courses with those "polite and patient" Manhattanites.

    Regards

PS Congratulations on your recent achievements.

    Thanks for the encouragement.
    Regarding Netherlands:

    1) The ONLY CLEP testing sites in Europe, for civilians at least, are in Webster University, Geneva and MST College, London. So Webster does not do this test in the Netherlands. As a matter of fact there was a chap from Holland yesterday at Webster taking the German Clep exam.

    2) I've been at this since 1997 (with some long stops) and believe me I have considered ALL possibilities including the US travel thing. But, going to the US for me means spending several days there because I'd have to recover from the flight-jet lag, and to make all the expense worth it of the flight and long stay I'd have to take a lot of tests. But I don't feel confident in preparing for more than say 3 at a time. Perhaps someone with a big memory (not my case) could prepare 10 or whatever to make that arragement worth it, but unfortunately not me, sorry.

I usually take my exams in London, which is more affordable than Geneva. This was my first trip to GEneva, the only reason being that I believed that MST college was closed for the summer and I am in a hurry now, cannot wait till September.

    Netherlands!

    Hi JLV:

How long is the flight from Madrid to the Netherlands? Just curious, My flight usually lands in Madrid on my way to Valencia to visit family on my dad's side. Are you sure of the price on that? Maybe next year I will fly over to the Netherlands on my way back from Valencia.

    Thanks,

    Abner :)

Abner, the trip lasts about 2 and a half hours, but it often takes less than two. I guess it depends on a number of factors. And yes, I am sure about the price because my parents just came for a visit. However, I must warn you. Those were, of course, the cheapest seats of the plane, which require early planning and restricted timetable (my parents came and left at the rush hour which in Holland is truly nightmarish - you´ll suffer it if you come). I think you could fly directly from Valencia to Maastricht. Don´t expect as much night life as in Madrid, but you´ll find quite a few places where to invest some Dead Presidents in ludical activities . BTW; here everything is basically legal, an aspect of Dutch culture that Americans find quite amusing. :D Regards.

BTW, which part of Valencia is your family from? I have spent most of my holidays (when I grew up) in that area so I know it well. Next America Cup is celebrated over there if you dig Sailing sports.

    Valencia

    Hi JLV:

It's in Alicante (Alicant), a little town in the mountains by the name of Gorga, I don't think it is even on the map. Alcoi would be the nearest little city, they are famous for their Easter processions, the Moors against the Christians.

    Thanks for the info.

    Keep in touch,

    Abner :)

I spent my summers between 10-18 at "Playa de San Juan" , a large area near the city of Alicante. Nice place back then. Don't know if now things are a bit overcrowded in most of that coast...

    Congratulations, Will.

    Thank for the info.
It seem that Geneva had made everything expensive.
